TSH is 6.6, but T4 is 21 ...

Hello All,

Please can you help me make sense of this ...

My last thyroid test results are:

TSH 6.6

T3 4.3 (3.1-6.8)

But T4 is ... 21! (12-22) and 6 weeks ago it was 14

(Don't take levo meds for 24 hours, tested at 8.45am)

I made a number of posts here about my struggles with increasing levo, currently taking 75/88 on alternating days.

But I don't have more room for more T4 ...

I know my T3 should be higher.

Tried T3, fast and slow release, reacted with heart palps, discomfort, lots of anxiety.

Adrenals were a bit overactive am and 12 noon on the saliva test. Working on my adrenals.

All the other nutrients - B12, folate, D, CRP, etc. were at ideal (according to what is recommended here) ranges.

Perhaps try NDT (never tried it before)?

What is the best step forward in my situation to lower TSH and T4 and raise T3 please?

When was last Levo taken before test? Recommended to be 24hours to get stable blood levels.

This is an odd result as previously on a similar dose your FT4 has been in the 30% range.

I agree! Yes, 24 hours with no meds before the test.

You appeared to be converting well previously. It's really your choice if you want to try NDT.

As you had changed the dose a week before this won't be a reliable test. There needs to be 6-8 weeks for the dose to settle to see stable blood levels.

just checking .. presumably you have been on a consistent dose / same product etc for the last 6 weeks ?

No, changed the dose and meds before the test, a week before. But wanted to see where I was at anyway and then retest again in 6-8 weeks on a new dose. Do you think that could had been a problem?

yes . it's a problem.

you need to be on an constant unchanged dose ,, (and preferably the same brand) for 6 weeks before you test TSH/ fT4 / fT3 , otherwise the results are not very meaningful.

1. Since you're alternating doses, could it be possible that you took 75 on the last test and you took 88 on this test ?

2. Maybe its had time to build up in your system or you were better able to absorb the t4 ???

Yes, totally possible that last test was on 75, for more days as I increased the meds.

Hi Julia. I hope you don't mind me asking, but I have issues with my meds and my doctor just won't change my doses. You seem to have lots of control over what to try or what to change. Is that through your GP, or do you go privately?

My family lives in another country where you can buy any dose without prescription and they send it over here, in whatever dose or amount I need. I know a lot about thyroid and meds myself, but also have a private Doc, though she just says what I already know tbh ...
