It is yet another layer of codes used to identify pharmaceutical products.
My reason for adding them is simply to help make it easier for people to get the medicines they need and want! I think many pharmacy systems can use PIP codes to find products.
We shouldn't need to know! But if you are trying to explain to a busy person in a noisy pharmacy, it might help ensure accurate communication - and even be helpful to them.
The only PIP codes I've got are for Roma T3 and you've already got them. Well, I presume you have them all, I found you'd got the 5mcg size, then stopped looking.
This is what I posted on ITT Facebook page. Let me know if you want anything edited...
Helvella, an administrator on Healthunlocked, has produced an incredibly useful document. It is a compendium of thyroid medications, including their ingredients, links to patient information leaflets, manufacturer details etc. It concentrates on UK but also lists others worldwide.
They say 'knowledge is power'. Armed with information from this document one can identify alternative manufacturers/brands of thyroid medications etc.
However, Helvella needs some help filling in some gaps. If you are able to help with PIP codes, please comment on Helvella's post on Healthunlocked (preferred method as it's less work for me), or comment on this post, or private message me, and I'll pass the information on.
Helvella asks:
'Does anyone have access to PIP codes for UK medicines?
My UK medicines document still has some blanks! If anyone has access to PIP codes, would they be willing to help me fill them?
(Not for one moment suggesting underhand or unapproved use of systems. But this information is sometimes locked behind paywalls and special systems.)
