Hair loss - Too much Selenium?

Rhsana How much selenium are you taking?
If you are taking up to 200mcg a day that is the usual amount recommended and the hair loss is probably more likely to be caused by low ferritin and/or hypothyroidism.
hey SeasideSusie , yep, you're right, I am only taking 200mcg a day (not including the amounts in food) . I though maybe it could build up over time if our system has trouble processing things anyway but I guess you are right... I am just desperately clutching at straws, I feel its not long now before all my hair is gone.
I think it is true that too much selenium causes hair texture to change. Last year after taking 200mg for 6 months, my hair became coarse, gray hair increased tremendously and I began to loose my hair. I had to stop for awhile, for about 3 months and my hair regained it formal texture and hair loss reduces as well. I think there are two types of selenium, one stays longer in the system and one doesn't. The best type is selenomethionine according to what I read. Good luck
Yes am taking selenomethionine again but I started with 100 and increased to 200 and I also take it with vitamin e without soy oil. Not perfect but can't compare to before, I ve a lot of improvement
