Taking t3 in one go......advice

Hi all

I'd appreciate some advice or thoughts please. Currently on 100 t4 15 t3. I was taking t3 3x a day but I found the middle one difficult to fit in due to work. Quite by chance I started taking 10 at night, 5 in the morning. A bedtime dose has always helped sleep. I don't get that "boost" that some get. I would swear that a bigger dose at night had helped my palpitations. I've only been on this dose since 10th December. Testing due in march.

Does anyone take their t3 in one go at bedtime??

I've just done an iron test as I've been trying to get Ferritin to raise without much luck.

Ferritin 64 ug/L ( 30 - 150)

Any opinions/ advice welcomed.

Thanks Lalatoot! I'm just wondering if it's doable. I could probably just try!

I take my one daily dose of 20 mcg ofT3 when I awake a.m. with one glass of water and wait an hour before I eat..

I feel well and have no unpleasant symptoms.

Hi Shaws. Thanks for your reply. How much do you take? I'm glad you feel well! That's where I'd like to be!!!

Thyroiduk.org had a scientist/doctor/expert on T3 but Dr John Lowe had an accident that caused his death due to a bleed on his brain.

I would certainly read his website and his widow is looking after it,

When he was young a number of his relatives had taken their own lives and when a teenager he began to research suicides as he was aware of how upset relatives felt when a family member took their own lives.

I take 20mcg of T3. I used to take a slightly higher T3. I am energetic and feel well and am symptom-free.

On levothyroxine I felt awful and had severe palpitations, especially during the night.

I take my 20 lio all in one go in the morning. I don’t get anything like a boost at all.

BiscuitBaby profile image
BiscuitBaby in reply toJAmanda

Hi JAmandaThanks for that. I reckon I might just have to try and see. I can always go back to splitting it!!

JAmanda profile image
JAmanda in reply toBiscuitBaby

yep I hated splitting it - each time after a few hours I felt awful like my body wanted the next dose. Earache mainly. ReD about something like ‘flooding the re receptors’ and braved taking all at once - and felt fine.

Dr John Lowe (was an Adviser to Thyroiduk) had an accident which caused his demise.

He always advised one dose of T3 daily. He stated that it saturated all of the T3 receptor cells and then sent out 'waves' throughout the day.

I trialled this and, yes, it did work for me.

I take T3 dose when I awake with one glass of water and wait an hour before eating.

Thanks shaws. That's interesting. I am thinking of trying it. I just don't want to make things worse. It can takes weeks to undo a mistake!!! It's reassuring to hear others experiences though.

Dr John Lowe was a genious as he started to research when very young to study about hormones- after several of his relatives took their own lives and, of course, families were devasted.

He stated that when we took one dose that it saturated all of our T3 receptor cells and they, in turn, sent out 'waves' that could last up to three days. I have trialled that (only once) took one dose of T3 - took none on day 2 or day 3 and I was fine.

That makes sense. I am sure I feel better going to 2 doses instead of three which is why I was thinking of going to one dose.

The only problem I've come across is - if we've been fine on a T3 tablet but then don't feel so good - a change in the new batch could be slightly different.

Yep, I'm a one hit wonder too!

It is crazy that I can split 15mcg over two/ three doses and have constant dips or I can take the same dose first thing and sail through the day 🤷‍♀️ Give it a go 🤗

Hi Eeyore100That's what I was thinking. The tablet taking ruling my day gets tiresome. Its OK if I'm in normal routine but if I'm not for whatever reason it's a pain. I can afford to let the supplements slip for a short time but obviously not the t4/3! Reckon I'll just have to pull up my big girl pants and get on with it!!!

I'm definitely feeling reassured though!

Hi Biscuit Baby : I take 125 Levo and 20 Lio together during the night : like you, I found splitting the Lio dose difficult because of work and other commitments - so having read in this group that there was an alternative way, I changed .

I’m not rigid about the time, just take it with water at any time I wake, as long as it’s well away from eating .

I feel better than I have for years and had no ill effects - no “boost” either - just feel “normal”.

Good luck if you decide to try it - and you can always change it again if it doesn’t suit you.

Thanks HandSThat's reassuring too. I think I might just try it. I might just go for bedtime. I try and sleep all night. I don't want to break it to take tablets. Thank you for your reply. Everyone's opinion is always helpful. It can feel a little lonely out there when the doctor doesn't like you cos you made a complaint!!! 😄

I know how you feel! I have found this group a huge support - even though we are all so v different.

By coincidence, a couple of months ago there were articles in the general news pages about publication of a research paper on the significance of the how meds are taken - everything from otc items like aspirin upwards. It resonated with my own experience.

Anyway - wishing you the very best 😊

I take three doses a day… 10,10,5 at 7,3 and 10.

I wear a Fitbit and have an alarm at 3 pm and a small bottle in my handbag. No matter where I am or what I am doing I dive into my handbag and take it. Don’t care if the people I am with think I am a junkie! 🤣🤣

BiscuitBaby profile image
BiscuitBaby in reply toMollyfan

Hi MollyfanI tried that but the kind of job I do it's not always appropriate to start taking tablets! Then I'd forget until bed time which is how I landed up taking 10 at night!! Thank you for taking time to reply! Much appreciated.

I only take 5mcg T3 (plus 100mcg T4). A month ago I started taking both at 10pm and my insomnia problems have mostly resolved. Still working on the right combo, though, since other symptoms, especially fatigue, have not yet resolved.

Yes, my sleep is so much better taking 10 at night. I almost think if I take 15 it'll be even better!!!

I take mine all in one go with my breakfast. I'm not a morning person and need to have sustenance ASAP first thing. The t3 seems to work for me despite this. I'm on 67.5 a day.

I’ve been taking my Levo and T3 (100 Levo and currently 17.5 Lio) all together at bedtime for a long time and it’s helped my sleep. I’ve never felt a “boost” with T3 and didn’t feel any benefit from splitting my dose. The only time I split is the day before my blood test. If it doesn’t work for you, you can always go back to splitting.

BiscuitBaby in reply toGingernut44

Thanks Gingernut. Your dose is similar to mine. I think I'm just going to have to try it!!! I can always go back as you say.

I take all of mine at once - 25 mcg. I felt the same as Amanda, when I split it up - into four or two -my body seemed to crave the next dose.

Try using a pill splitter so you get 7.5 am and pm.
