I wonder if people without a thyroid gland need these trace elements for replacement hormones to work? I would guess they do .

If they are lacking, either naturally or as a direct result of disease then they should form an important part of treatment.

My query too.And should we test for selenium before supplementing?

I got my gp to test my selenium & it was top of the range without supplements. So, yes, best to test first.

amala57,

Trace elements are needed for thyroid hormone cellular uptake as well as the actual making of.

I generally can only cope with the " conclusion" sections in these research papers and now quite giddy as this conclusion a step too far for me today - I shall try again later as my NDT peaks !!

Well - good luck with this one then :

and when it's ready to read as a mini conclusion of just a couple of paragraphs I think we can stretch to awarding you a couple of gold stars !!

I take T3 only and I would like to know if selenium, & maybe other trace elements, would be a useful supplements to take.

Selenium is usually mentioned as being useful to support conversion of T4 to T3, which I no longer do. My blood tests show negligible T4.

Many thanks for any info.
