Vitamin D results are in - I'm worried

Dear Community

I recently had some bloods done but the Vit D results have only just been updated onto my NHS App. I thought perhaps the lab had not undertaken the analysis.

I am worried because one of these is right at the bottom of the range.

Please may ask your advice in helping me to understand them

25-Hydroxyvitamin D3 74 nmol/L [no range provided]

Calciferol (Vitamin D2) [Moles/volume] in Serum or Plasma 1 nmol/L [Range:0 - 10 nmol/L]

Vitamin D (25-hydroxycholecalciferol) [Moles/volume] 75 nmol/L [Range:51 - 163 nmol/L]

vitamin D at 74nmol is reasonable

Are you currently supplementing vitamin D

Aiming for vitamin D at least over 80nmol

Between 100-125nmol might be better

What about folate, B12 and ferritin results

Ferritin in Serum or Plasma 102 ng/mL or ug/L [Range:13 - 150 ng/mL or ug/L]

My B12 is not looking great to be honest and you offered some great recommendations in my previous post which I have actioned.

Vitamin B12 is 288 ng/L [Range:160 - 800 ng/L]

Folic Acid is 6.1 ug/L [Range Range:> 2.7 ug/L]

I was a bit alarmed to see that my D2 was 1 nmol/L [Range:0 - 10 nmol/L]. Do I need to worry about this? This is the first time I have seen a D2 reading on my bloods.

I take D3 1000iu daily - better you spray. In my notes the endo has stated 800iu. But one day a week I'll take a capsule of 2000iu

I have been diagnosed with osteopenia - bone density scan was done over 3 years ago.. Calcium levels have always been over range. Current calcium levels are:

Calcium [Moles/volume] corrected for albumin in Serum or Plasma 2.63 mmol/L [Range:2.2 - 2.6 mmol/L]

Calcium [Moles/volume] in Serum or Plasma 2.51 mmol/L [Range:2.15 - 2.55 mmol/L]

PTH (Parathyrin.intact) [Moles/volume] 6.1 pmol/L [Range Range:1.6 - 6.9 pmol/L]

Hi nimble 💓

Looks like you could have parathyroid problem as slowDragon as said👍

I had 2 over range calciums found in my thyroid bloods in April 2020( 2.67..2.63) range..2.10..2.60) GP never bother to inform me of them and never performed PTH with these calciums 😠

had 2 over range PTH of 8.1...9.5)..range(1.60..6.90) with just in range calciums (2.54..2.53) this is known as normocalcaemic hyperparathyroidism where the pth is elevated and the calcium remains in normal range but at the top end.

Low vit d is connected to this condition, mine was 29 deficiency)

Have you got any symptoms of wanting to pee more than normal? Are you thirsty alot? Have body pain or back loin pain which can be associated with kidney stones also ostiopein I have this to.

You said your calcium is always over range, what as your GP said about this?... nothing I bet!!, what have they said about your PTH?..I'm afraid like thyroid GPS and endos know little to nothing about parathyroid problems 😠 I've found it virtually impossible to get treated by the NHS on this illness because like thyroid they want to see high over range bloods on 2/3 separate occasions, this does not always occure the calcium can bounce in and out as can the pth,.

As slowDragon as said you need all 3 bloods PTH,cal, vit d with magnesium phosphate and a 24 HR urine calcium test creatinine blood to be done alongside the urine test.

I hope you have a knowledgeable GP who understands this condition 🤞 but truly if his seen your results you should be seeing the endo👍 good luck💓

birkie you are right, I have been experiencing body pain and back loin pain, particularly on the left hand side. I feel like I am always going for a pee - day and night and its driving me bonkers and impacted my sleeping pattern. I find it difficult to get restful sleep. No one seems to be able to get to the bottom of it. It's been going on for more than a year now. I am looking into changing my GP and hope something positive comes of it. I've been with the same GP for 35 years and it has been a difficult decision to take. They used to listen before but over the last few years of not feeling well, due to one reason or another, it's been a struggle to get them to do something. Every time I get the same answer 'you're going through the menopause'

Thanks again to you and SlowDragon for your suggestions/guidance.

With you on the menupause thing that's what I got labelled with in 2014 turned out to actually be graves disease I lost my thyroid in 2019 due to those lost years of being undiagnosed.Same with my parathyroid problem got first diagnosis in 2004 but got discharge after one normal blood test, then diagnosed again in 2020...it beggers belief they can't diagnose us As the jigsaw pieces are their but they seem to be blind to it😠

I got to see a private parathyroid surgeon in Banbury he as now identified a nodule on the left side of my neck something the nhs refused to do😠 I'm now waiting on a pet chlorine scan at Liverpool 👍

I joined a great parathyroid site.. Hyperparathyroid UK Action 4Change..it was through this site I got the private parathyroid surgeon and the ultrasound scan.

You need to be active in this yourself and push for further blood tests 👍 best of luck... Keep us posted ❤️❤️
