I have been on a dose of levothyroxines 100mcg for the last 8yrs and i discovered that after taking this tiny tablet i started to sweat and boil so hot ive had to put the fan on all day and night..i stopped taking it and lo and behold no sweating whatdoever.Im 66 and past the menopause..I asked my partner to test my theory its the tablet by secretly putting it in a sandwich or a cake or pudding without me knowing and 100% of the time i started to sweat to the point i couldn't stand it anymore..i have gone days without one tablet then id just try one to make sure and hey presto im being boiled alive and had to lie on a towel in bed..i thought those hot sweaty days were behind me now but i had to have my bloods done at hospita. last week plus for my diabetis..type 1 only diagnosed in 2013 and now the doctor wants me to make an urgent appointment concerning the blood test results...I just cannot take those tablets ever again.id rather have some kinda quality of life than carry on sweating dripping and boiling..the only thing thats affected me is that i do start to feel tired and sleepy at night..ive never been a good sleeper so i quite like it that i can drop off to sleep before 3 in the morning for a change.does anyone else go thru this problem? because surely im not the only other woman in the uk its happening to.

Welcome to the group.

It may well be that your doctor wasn't giving you enough Levothyroxine so the sweating was due to under replacement rather than the tablet itself.

Do you have your blood results from when you were on the tablets? Ask GP receptionist for a printed copy to which you are legally entitled to.

Approx how much do you weigh? There is a calculation to give a very approx estimated final dose. Weight in kilos x 1.6

That is possible , but it doesn't seem to fit in this case

If the sweating was caused by the dose of Levo being too small .. then the sweating would not have stopped when the levo was stopped.

overmedication, (rather than undermedication) seems more likely to be the cause of a problem which resolves on stopping levo, and re-appears when it is taken again.

Perhaps 100mcg is just a bit too much for you now ?

I used to be ok on 150mcg for many years before i went through the menopause .. then a few yrs later i became overmedicated on that dose and it needed to be reduced to my current dose of 112.5mcg .

i accidentally took 162.5mcg mcg one day last year and i ended up sweating in bed too .

It could be either way. Hettywainthrop says she gets the same effect taking just one tablet even after a break.

agreed .. just pointing out that if 'dose' is the problem ( rather than something else ) then 'a bit too much' causes just as many problems as 'not quite enough'

Thanks ever so much for your reply and its made me wonder that you could be right, although i am supposed to be taking another teeny tiny levothyroxine of 25mcg on top but dear me taking both made me feel at deaths door.My doctor is so rude to me that ive not seen him for two years now.I sound mad but im not being spoken to and ordered around like hes a headmaster and im a naughty child,so instead i just get my meds once a month,go to have my bloods done twice a year and once every year my diabetic retinopathy test done..to be honest im just thinking of packing the whole lot in as im in starting to get depression.Oh i just don't know but thank you for taking the time to reply to me.take care..

if you get hold of the latest blood test results you could put them on here and people would be able to help you understand what' s going on with them ,

you don't need to see the GP for this, NHS patients have a right to their blood results as long as a GP has already seen the result first.

The simplest way to get recent results is to to into reception and just ask for "a printout of my latest thyroid blood test results from 'x ' date " ( you want the actual result and [lab ranges] which are usually after the result in brackets,... not just the opinion/ comment ie 'normal no action' )

The receptionist may say they need to check that a GP has already seen them , or needs to check with a supervisor if they are not used to giving results out ~ if so, just say ok you'll come back in a day or two to collect them . They shouldn't really ask you why you want them but they sometimes do .. in which case the best answer is " for my own records".
