I have a notification that I have a Chat message but can't see any message. I've reported it to HU but not received a reply. Apologies if someone has really messaged me.

Everything was working so well up until the chat format changed :

This is an issue ever since they changed how private messages works a couple of months ago

If you trawl back through private messages you will (eventually) find the “new” message…..it will be from a member you have previously had conversations with

Any member you have previously had conversation with …..if they now message you …..the message doesn’t come to top of private messages……it sits in list in date order when you last spoke to them

I have flagged this up as a problem to HU several times……so far no progress

For people with whom you have previously interacted, it looks like the messages are sorted in date order of when YOU last interacted with the person.

If you message them, it will be at or near the top.

If they message you, it will be when you read their last message, or sent a message to them. Which could be months or years ago.

Once you find it and read it, it then pops up near the top.

I have over a hundred pages of message!

And I think, from memory, you ask not to be contacted on PM unless really necessary !

and i thought I had more than my fair share !!

Well I do believe that, unless there is a particular reason, discussions are better on the forum. When I spout rubbish, someone can tell me and correct it. If buried in a private chat, it is only two people and mistakes get missed.

Since this change to messaging system I find that the easiest way to find the PM, if you have many pages of PMs (and like helvella I probably have over 100), is to just click on the link in the email notification rather than the chat icon on the forum page. That will then take you straight to the message.

Yes - but sometimes I have not received a timely notification by email!

But you are absolutely right. A good point to make.
