Anaemia test results

Hi all,

I recently did the 'Full health screen' from Monitor My Health and all the vitamin results have come back without proper ranges. Only the graphs. Which is irritating. BUT

Would you supplement iron with these results? I can't afford to do a full iron panel, and I had assumed this test would be enough to make a decision.

Haemoglobin: 130g/l

Ferritin: 75

TSAT: 38%

Active B12: 81

Folate: 4.9

Does anyone know the ranges for Monitor my health results? I can attach the graphs if neede.d.

Thanks!

Can you please add a picture of your results. The graph has coloured bands, the green band is the normal range and will have numbers there so you will be able to see the upper and lower limits of the normal range.

ACTIVE B12

Range looks to be about 40-210 which is a bit wider than Medichecks which is 37.5-165.

If your result was less than 70 it would suggest testing for B12 deficiency. At 81 it's a bit less than we would suggest, we tend to say over 100 is good.

Folate

Range is probably 3.9 (quite typical) to 25. Yours is very low at 4.9 and although not folate deficiency it certainly needs imroving.

Ferritin

This looks as though it could be 15-400 and the usual range for females is 13-150 with Medichecks/Blue Horizon (15-300 with my GP surgery but that's the same for everyone, male, female and regardless of age). As yours is 75 it's not too bad although some experts say the optimal level for thyroid function is 90-110ug/L.

1Thanks SS! Ferritin just keeps dropping; I had an iron transfusion in 2021 and it's been nigh on impossible to keep it up, regardless of how much Iron rich food I eat. Once I'd had the infusion I couldn't supplement iron as all the other measures were good and so it's just been a case of watching it fall.

Saturation:

Range is approx 15-50 and yours is 38% which is actually right where it should be according to rt3-adrenals.org/Iron_test_... who say the optimal level is 35-45% with the higher end for males.

Haemoglobin

So the lower limit is 126 and if that is the limit of the green band then the upper limit of the range seems to be 270.

I haven't done this test with MMH but that does seem to be a very wide range. When I've had one done with my GP the result comes back as HAEMOGLOBIN ESTIMATION and the range is 115-165g/L. If that was my result I think I might be inclined to ask MMH why their range is so wide considering my NHS results with my GP have a much narrower range.

in reply to SeasideSusie

All have dropped since I last tested but that makes sense because I've been lax on my supplements !

I would suggest sending an email to MMH asking where you can find the actual reference ranges. Those graphs are awful and are very imprecise.

I quite agree. The upper limits seem to be too high in most cases.

Seaside, and humanbean I have emailed now. I'll let you know what they say!
