High ferritin low leucocytes

Hi all , happy NY .

Hoping someone can shed some light on what’s going on as my doc hasn’t returned my call. He may not have been given the message so I will try and book an appointment next week but could be a while as have to get through the 3rd degree in the booking service🙈.

I have Hashimotos thyroiditis (diagnosed about 15 years ago) and take 1/2 a Euthyral 100mcg/20mcg tablet daily .

I had to switch to it in March 2019 as Armour thyroid isn’t allowed in France where I now live .

I’ve not been well since . I get episodes - they tend to go in what I call “waves” where I wake at night boiling hot , sweating , nauseaous and with pounding heart . Occasionally get SVTs during the day and recently one scary episode when we were eating out when my heart rate skipped from 52 to 203 in one beat. I also almost fainted .

Blood tests at the start of December read ferritin way over range (357ng/ml -“ normal” range 15-150) .

Leucocytes have been gradually going down and are now flagging as below range (3960/mm3 - normal range 4,000 - 10,000) . Also my usually good cholesterol is out of range too although triglycerides are normal . Overall cholesterol is 6.91 (range 3.87 -5.68). My HDL is always high but for the first time ever my LDL is high (4.42mmol/l - normal range > -4.13).

If anyone can cast any light on what may be causing this please do.

Thanks to all . Wishing you all a healthy New Year .

'take 1/2 a Euthyral 100mcg/20mcg tablet daily .'

So that equates to 50mcg T4 and 10mcg T3 a day, yes?

How and when do you take this?

Thank you for responding . Sorry I’ve only just seen your comment.

Yes it does .

I take it with a glass of water when I get up in the morning at least 30 mins to an hour before breakfast .

Did not take it on the day of the blood tests as they were “de jeune “ ie fasting blood tests.

I wondered if I overdid the ´fasting as I didn’t have any food for more than 24 hours ?

If your cholesterol is high then you're likely under replaced. We really need to see your latest blood results to include an FT3 to assess. Also other key vitamins - folate and B12.

Thanks but these are my latest blood tests. Ft3 wasn’t requested by the doc nor was folate or B12. I’ll have to book another RDV to request them . I got fobbed off by the booking service who said doc would ring me re the last ones . Could be some time getting a RDV as docs under pressure here and some are on strike but I’ll re post if I can get them done. The episodes seem random but seem to happen when I’ve done a lot so am very tired , eaten late or eaten something that triggers them although I don’t know what .

People in the UK have to book private blood tests to get the full panel to include FT3, NHS won't do it. It does seem a low dose you're taking. Whats an RDV?

High ferritin is often inflammation.

I live in France not the U.K. . RDV is the French for a rendezvous - the term for an appointment. Normally not an issue to ask for T3 or T4 tests etc and get them back the same day online . However there’s currently delays here as the private labs in our region are on strike this week and possibly for the whole of January 🙈. The region is huge so travelling to a lab outside it is not an option .

HI there

Sorry for late reply . Don’t know if these will help but I’ve just noticed that Folate and B12 were tacked on the end of the last blood tests in early December ! No T3/T4 tests though 😞. Must’ve been because I’d mentioned my hair is falling out (quite drastically) - nails are flaking now too.

Folate within range 6.8ng/ml (range 3.9-26.8)

B12 also within range 341pg/ml (range 197- 771) .

Thanks for your replies .

Kind Regards
