Hi I was ordering if anyone can help with my latest results, I am currently on thyroid s 3 grains a day 2 in the morning and one around 2pm my latest results show t4 around 12 I'm normally optimal about 16/17 I'm the range . Obs shows I'm slightly overactive this is due to the t3 in the thyroid s . Do I need to increase or decrease my dose? Thanks in advance

hi.

What makes you think you are over active?

I use levo and lio not thyroid s but I like my levels higher than yours. My own experience would say that your ft4 is far too low. I like mine around 17/18 and ft3 around 6. So I’d be increasing my dose first but I do wonder if you will be adding in some levo at some stage?

How do you feel? I would expect you to feel very symptomatic. Obviously we are all different but that ft4 would feel awful for me.

Hi Thanks for your reply, I know I'm not overactive just the result show that but they don't take into account the thyroid s. I feel tired, achy, not great tbh so dobu think I should increase morning dose? Or add some levo, thanks

the results show that your tsh is low. Not that you’re over medicated. Obviously your still symptomatic too

I don’t take thyroid s so you really need someone who has experience with it to guide you. However that said, on those results, I would increase. There is room to raise your ft3 still. Am I right in thinking that one grain is 9mcg t3?? So yes I’d raise the thyroid a first and then test and see how you feel. I suspect at that point you may need to add some levo depending on where your ft3 is. You may still have scope to raise thyroid s then but only trialling it will tell.

Obs shows I'm slightly overactive this is due to the t3 in the thyroid s .

First of all, take no notice of the comments given by the lab's doctor. They just don't understand what taking T3 in any form does. T3/NDT is going to lower TSH, it's just what it does. So we can ignore TSH (a pituitary hormone) and just look at the actual thyroid hormones results - FT4 and FT3 - these are what will tell you if you are overmedicated.

Taking NDT (or T3) generally lowers FT4 as well and yours is at the bottom of the range. This may be fine for some people, others may need it higher in range. Your FT3 is 43.24% through range and this would be too low for many people on NDT or Levo/T3 combo. However, where we need our individual hormone levels when taking NDT or Levo/T3 combo is very personal so we have to experiment to find our sweet spot and gradually tweak dose(s) until we find it.

Do I need to increase or decrease my dose?

That depends on how you feel. Do you feel well - if so leave things as they are. If you feel symptomatic there is plenty of room to increase your dose of NDT. As you say you are optimal with FT4 around 16/17 (12-22) then it's likely that you need to increase your dose.

Hello cneal :

When you say you are optimal with a T4 at around 16/17 where is your T3 ?

3 grains is around 27 mcg T3 + 117 mcg T4

I don't think you can compare results from all the different treatment options :

Taking T3 lowers T4 readings :

NDT is a totally different option and does not ' fit into the ranges ' in the accepted manner.

Are you monitoring blood pressure, pulse and temperature and seen anything change and have you experienced any relief of any symptoms ?

Did you have any bench mark readings from before starting NDT and has your T3 moved at all ?
