New blood test results

My GP arranged some tests because of my ferritin levels as shown on the Medicheck blood test.

I’ve been chasing them for my latest, today I was informed by a receptionist that the GP has said they’re fine. I’ve just had them emailed to me.

Levo 100 mcg

6/11/20

TSH. 4.96

T4. 24

Ferritin. 290

24/11/20

After phone consultation with endocrinology nurse managed to get levo increased to 125 mcg

9/12/20

GP results ( told they were normal by receptionist)

TSH. 2.36

T4. 24

Ferritin. 319

Any thoughts, am I going mad thinking they’re not right?

p. s. Other bloods fine.

Please add ranges on these results

Were these tests done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Sorry,

Ranges

TSH. 0.27–4.2

T4. 12-22

Ferritin. 13-150

The 6/11/20 was taken after levo (100mcg) at approximately 11am.

28/11/20 started 125 mcg levo

9/12/20

Blood test first thing in the morning, 24 hours since last dose

Are the first results Medichecks and the second ones done by your GP? If so are you sure your GP reference ranges are the same as Medichecks? It seems strange that your FT4 is the same at 24 after a dose increase of 25mcg Levo, one would expect to see it higher.

Both sets of results are from my GP. 6/11 & 9/12

Medicheck 5/10/20

TSH. 9.13. (0.27–4.2)

T4. 18.6. (12–22)

Ferritin 300. (13–150)

Medicheck taken as instructed.

All other blood tests arranged by GP are fine.

Don’t know if this has any bearing on the subject but, coincidently, since taking carbimazole and now levo, after RAI, I’ve been suffering from psoriasis.

28/11/20 started 125 mcg levo

9/12/20

Testing should be 6-8 weeks after any dose or brand change in levothyroxine

9th Dec only 2 weeks after

Would suspect you might have hashimoto’s

Have you had TPO and TG antibodies tested

Psoriasis is autoimmune

Thanks slow dragon.

I appreciate the test wasn’t too early for the thyroid after change in medication.

My surgery is really messing me about, the test on the 9th should have only been for ferritin. When I arrived there the GP had ordered TSH and T4, got the nurse to go through the previous test which clearly showed ferritin was required.

Many thanks, have safe and happy Christmas xx

Re-reading you’re post, I was originally diagnosed with thyrotoxicosis, having a toxic nodule. Can it turn into hashimoto’s after RAI? I’m so confused!

You can have both Graves and Hashimoto’s

Nodules often associated with Hashimoto’s

You need B12, folate and vitamin D tested

Full iron panel test to see if iron is also high or just ferritin

High ferritin can be due to inflammation

Also can be due to non alcoholic fatty liver disease

Ferritin is over range in both sets of GP tested results. So, what reason has GP given?

First set possible link between thyroid and ferritin discussed. Latest, after being obliged to email surgery following a confusing conversation with the receptionist, received a phone call from the same receptionist who informed me that GP considered them to be correct.

If it were me, I would want a full iron panel to include TiBc and also blood tests for inflammation to rule out obvious reasons for raised ferritin levels. I'd also want to ask GP what they think is causing it. Receptionist telling you results are correct doesn't equate to the results meaning you are in good health without any problems. Personally, I would want some explanation for the raised ferritin level.

Thanks Nanaedake,The first GP who ordered a whole bunch of tests included tibc ,

73. (45-81)

I don’t understand why the GP would say my results are normal given that the ferritin is going up instead of down.

I recently read that taking too much Vit C could cause a raised result, I’ve been taking up to 2000 mg daily because of Covid, one contained zinc. I’ve cut back to 1000 mg , minus the zinc.

Another GP ruled out haemachromatosis, something I’d considered given my Celtic background.

All other vitamins fall within range.

I’m dreading phoning the surgery again and getting the same receptionist. She doesn’t listen and either she can’t read her screen properly or my records are a complete mess, that’s another battle on the horizon!

Thanks for taking the time to reply, happily New year.
