Will medication get rid of my goitre?

Hi all,

Quick question - my thyroid is still being “monitored” by my endocrinologist. Meanwhile I believe the goitre on my thyroid is getting bigger. When I do get medicated will this reduce / get rid of the goitre?

Thanks x

It might shrink it …..have you had ultrasound scan of thyroid yet

endocrinologist said he doesn’t think there’s a need for an ultrasound 🙄

A goitre is not on your thyroid. It is your thyroid. A goitre is a swollen goitre. And, it depends what is causing it. :)

I’ve tested negative for graves and Hashimoto’s. Endo doesn’t think it’s autoimmune. I don’t know what else could be causing it .

Could be some sort of infection. How long have you had it?

What was tested to rule out Hashi's? It's not easy to rule out because antibodies fluctuate all the time, so they may have been low at the time of testing, but could be high next week, or next year. One test is not enough to rule out Hashi's. Plus, there are two Hashi's antibodies, TPOab and TgAB were they both tested? And, to complicate matters even further, some Hashi's people never have over-range antibodies and are diagnosed by ultrasound. Have you had an ultrasound?

You need FULL thyroid testing….

BOTH TPO and TG antibodies

20% of Hashimoto's patients never have raised antibodies
