High TPO antibodies indicates that you have Autoimmune Thyroiditis. And that's all it is, an indication. Antibodies do not cause mental health issues.
On the other hand, Autoimmune Thyroiditis causes hypothyroidism/low levels of thyroid hormones. And low levels of thyroid hormones can cause many mental health issues. In October, your FT3 was too low, because you are a poor converter, and it's pretty certain that it's the low FT3 that is causing any mental health issues you might have.
Thank you, so I need to get my t3 up? I'm due for bloods soon so trying to see what I need to tell my doctor, I must also ask for vitamin levels as they can also cause low mood I think.
Thanks, because I don't have an endo and will prob have to wait years to see one, I wouldn't say my area would prescribe T3. I'm currently on 75mcg of levo and my t4 is coming down. I wonder should I increase but if I'm a poor convertor it prob won't make a difference. Its so confusing
Not at all scary. Many of us on here do that. So, you've got plenty of people to advise you how to go about it. Just ask. First, ask people to PM you links to their trusted on-line sources of thyroid hormone.
Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies (TPOab) these show the cause of your hypothyroidism is Autoimmune ( most hypo is caused by this) .
as the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, thyroid peroxidase gets spilled into the bloodstream ( where it shouldn't be , it should be inside the thyroid). These antibodies attach to it (as markers) so that another part of the immune system can come along and clear it up .
Opinions differ as to whether there is any way ( or any point in trying) to reduce them. Auto -immune Protocol(AIP) diets may have some effect .
They will tend to reduce over the yrs anyway as there is less healthy thyroid tissue left to attack as time goes on. Mine were >3000 when diagnosed in 2003 ... more recently they were 195.. i've never done anything to try and reduce them .
if you do try different diets etc to try and reduce them . you still won't know if it was the change in diet , or if they would have gone down anyway, because levels of them do fluctuate .ie . If there has recently been another attack on thyroid, then you could expect them to be higher again.
As for symptoms .... not directly related .. other than the fact that they show autoimmune hypo which obviously has symptoms. and autoimmune hypo has the potential to be a bit fluctuating anyway as the destruction occurs with occasional hyper type swings where ready made T4/T3 is dumped into the blood (not true hyper ,where the thyroid is actually over producing T4/T3)
No harm in trying to reduce them though if you want to .. if they are low and stay low then that could indicate the immune system has calmed down and isn't attacking thyroid very much.
Thanks for your reply, the brand in Ireland is called Eltroxin. I take them early morning on empty stomach and don't eat for more than an hour.
I've been taking Zenflore the last 3 weeks it's a probiotic hours after levo. I was fine for about 5 years on 125mcg then they said I was over medicated prob by only tsh, until I started getting really sick in June. I've never got any results only since July when I requested to see them so I could show you. I'm die bloods soon so I will ask for all vitamins too and coeliac. The reason for lowering must have been the ft4 being elevated. So not sure if he will put me back up maybe he doesn't know much about t3 like myself.
