People who have an increased risk for CPPD include those with:
A thyroid condition.·
Kidney failure. ·
Parathyroid disease. ·
Low magnesium. ·
Disorders that affect calcium, phosphate or iron metabolism (such as hemochromatosis).
Please add most recent thyroid, iron, ferritin, magnesium and parathyroid results
Many thanks for your reply. I’ve been referred for tests for baseline metabolic function which I presume will answer your query re: thyroid, iron, ferratin, etc? . I already have osteo- and psoriatic-arthritis, Crohn’s and osteoporosis. I was interested to speak to anyone else who has the condition.
Hi Morganalefaye,
Thanks for posting. Sorry I can't offer any guidance as I'd not heard of CPPD before.
I followed SlowDragon's link and also did a quick Google, it's described as a form of arthritis (pseudo gout) which sounds like it can be very painful.
What treatment have you been offered?
Best wishes.
I have already been able to read what is available online about the condition, but as it seems to be somewhat unusual there’s not a lot of info. Thanks for answering.
Have you been here parathyroiduk.org/
Thank you. Will look. The CPPD itself is, (or can be?), apparently, a result of a thyroid condition, so it’s the thyroid issue rather than the CPPD which is of interest, since I don’t believe a thyroid problem has ever been mentioned, despite many issues, such as palpitations, eye-problems, osteoporosis, diarrhoea, difficulty sleeping, etc, which I understand can be related to a thyroid issue?
CPPD commonly known as “pseudogout,” can be related to thyroid disorder. This links to previous posts here about pseudogout healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...
'Causes
In most cases, the cause of the crystal formation is unknown, although deposits increase as people get older. Because CPPD tends to run in families, genes may play a role. Other possible factors in its development include excess stores of iron; low blood magnesium levels; an overactive parathyroid; a severely underactive thyroid; or excess calcium in the blood. '
