Not sure if anyone on here has experienced this but my mother in law has just been admitted to hospital, they have found high calcium levels in her blood and now saying she requires surgery for parathyroid, just after any info regarding this, maybe someone has been through this?

My Uncle's sister had this and had to have her parathyroid glands removed because there was something wrong with them. She is ok now and only has to have her calcium levels monitored.

Here is a link about it

She is not on any medication at the moment but when she was first diagnosed she was very ill because there was too much calcium in her blood. They are monitoring her calcium levels to make sure they don't get high again. I think they only removed 2 .. I will ask my Uncle when I see him next

Yes she was the same and they took ages to find out the cause. She had the op a few years ago now and is fine so try not to worry.

I don't blame you this is a life threatening condition .... I would complain about the Doctors who misdiagnosed her.

Yeah pretty bad hes had her on same antidepressant for over 10 years which apparently ambos told us is not a long term one, never thought to switch brands not once when they stopped working for her.

Some antidepressants are addictive and people can rely on them. Luckily I have never had to take them.

I have and now been of them for 5 years, my doct last year thought i had fibromyalgia and wanted to put me on them, i didn't fit symptoms so i changed doct as my symptoms were of overmedication of thyroid meds, since stopping meds and restarting im nearly back to normal, weird thing is my bloods didn't show overmedicated apart from higher end t4 and t3, so glad i didn't take other docts advice

Yes, I have had a parathyroid adenoma, high calcium and parathyroid blood tests confirmed further investigation, then sesta mibi scan and ultrasound scan, which confirmed the adenoma, which was removed with the affected gland., so I now have 3 parathyroid glands left.

I felt so much better after the operation, which was 3 years ago. I am 71 so a similar age group.
