Anyone any experience with this or had tumor removed?
Parathyroid adenoma: Anyone any experience with... - Thyroid UK
Parathyroid adenoma
Yes, just over a year ago, now fully recovered. What would you like to know?
I am afraid I have the same condition. Where did you get your surgery? What diagnostic tools were applied? I am thinking of going to Tampa, Florida to Dr. Norman.
I had mine at st Anthony's ,cheam. Excellent treatment, surgeon was professor Kim, felt so much better very soon after. He specialises in the condition, and can highly recommend him.
Thank you very much for your Information! It really gives me hope . I am in no good condition, since I also have been hypothyroid for so many years.. Please , could you add the city of the hospital so that I could find out on the Internet. I live in Germany. Thanks again, and all the best wishes for you.
Sorry for delay in replying, but only just picked up your message. Professor Kim did my operation at St Anthonys Hospital, which is in Cheam, Surrey, but I understand he also operates from St Georges Hospital, London, and the Royal Marsden, London. Good luck, I also had felt awful for a long time, but felt better immediately after the operation.
Yes, I had a parathyroid adenoma removed at King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill, South East London, UK) in December 2015 by Professor Klaus-Martin Schulte. Full and trouble-free recovery. PTH and calcium levels returned to normal. A highly recommended team led by an exceptional surgeon.
Hi thanks for reply, that's good to hear, I've got to have scans to confirm, did you have depression, fatigue, anxiety as a symptom, I will be having removed at Gatwick spire if there is a tumour, just worried as know nothing about it but I have underactive thyroid years but been feeling not myself for year and now doctors discovered high calcium levels so could of been parathyroid for a while but undiagnosed and told had depression but haven't responded to any antidepressants so far and been on so many different ones.
Hi Siennawalsh,
Thanks for your response. To be absolutely honest with you, I developed a whole heap of chronic health problems around 2011/12 and it's hard to know what was causing any individual symptom. It came to light that I'd had high PTH and calcium levels for goodness knows how long,; at least since 2012/13. Once diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism, it took two hospitals a long time, and repeat tests, to locate the rogue gland despite x-rays, ultrasounds; sestamibi scans, etc. But eventually its location was agreed upon and the procedure undertaken and now all I have to show for it is a small scar on my neck. I can't say that I felt much different afterwards, but at the start of this year found out that I was, and probably had been for some considerable time, chronically diabetic so almost certainly that would have affected my overall health and how I was feeling.
My advice, for what it's worth, is to spend time researching the condition; the tests you'll be having and when you meet the surgical team, ask tons of questions. I don't want to go into great detail here, but if you wanted more information, I'll be more than happy to share my experiences via a personal mail.
Good luck, and all the very best,
Peter A
Thanks very much for your reply glad yours worked out well, these things take time, and a worry as I'm never ill!
Avril
Thanks, Avril.
All the very best with yours, too. I'm sure it'll be absolutely fine.
Kindest regards,
Peter A
Hi Peter, I just read your answer to Siennawalsh and I would of be most interested in more details as well. I am not myself for many many years, unable to work and recently found out I was undersunstituted-hypothyroid and now also the high calcium and high PTH- I had to find out by myself, the doctors found everything to be fine.. So I am run down with my nerves and want to find out as much as possible about the condition. I switched by myself to T3, today is the first day without T4. I have some more energy and a lot less pain, but obviously still a lot to do. Thank you for your help.
Hi Renawaltdr,
Thanks for your comment.
What information are you after?
Peter
Thank you. I think now I will want for the Scans and the Endo appointment and then Share the results.
Sounds like an excellent plan!! Once located, the adenoma ought to be easily removable and effect a complete cure. Of course, you will still need treatment for your thyroid problem. Good luck and do keep us informed how things progress.
Kindest regards and all good wishes,
Peter A
Thank you so much for your information. This gives me hope. I will find out about the hospital on the internet. I think it must really be a highly socialized surgeon. I live in Gemany . All the best for you!
