Confusing results, symptoms, coeliac looking for advice

Hi I'm new to this and wondered if anyone could advise me on a couple of things. I am a 45, perimenopausal, diagnosed coeliac 3 years ago (silent symptoms which made it very confusing but following a very strict gf diet). I noticed my neck was a bit asymmetrical in the summer but thought i was imagining it and as was having other issues with non specific pain and investigations (inconclusive) so I didn't ask the dr. A few weeks ago a friend commented on my neck and I went straight to the dr who seemed very unconcerned (although its very visible, like a swelling on one side, sort of flat) and said he thought it was a simple goitre as diffuse and soft and regular. I'd also just had blood tests done full range coincidentally and thyroid was good as well as inflammation etc. I've been waiting for my scan for weeks (its next week) and am very anxious as I've been doing lots of unhelpful googling! However I did find this forum which has been really educational. Because of this I did the medichecks advanced thyroid test as I'm so confused and anxious about the coeliac/thyroid thing. For some reason the B12 and vit D were unreadable so i'm redoing these but i've attached the results. Wondering if anyone can help me work out what I should do with these, does it look like I have Hashimotos thyroiditis but not enough to effect my thyroid function? (High antibodies but normal TSH). I could only add one image but everything else in range. Shall I ask the dr to look at these (find it hard to communicate with my dr so not sure what to say) or should I wait until after my scan? (I just thought that as everything is taking so long with the nhs at the moment I didn't know if this info would help the process). I do also have other symptoms, cold, pain and anxiety and lots more. Thank you so much!

So you have Hashi's due to raised antibody results. It's a very slow process of it destroying your thyroid and can take years.

What time of day was this blood test done?

In range vitamin levels aren't good enough. They need to be OPTIMAL which means towards the top of the range and certainly over 50%. What were the vitamin levels you have with ranges? You will be able to work on these in the mean time to help how you are feeling.

Hi thanks so much. Ferritin is 61 ug/L (range 30-150)

Folate is 26.2 (range 8.83-60.8)

Have to retest B12 and D next week.

I took the test at 820. So Hashi isn't treatable until it effects Thyroid Hormones? You just work on vitamins and general health. Hopefully nothing sinister with my scan but it looks like a goitre is possible before thyroid function affected so going to hold onto that thought for now (and all this probably more likely because of my coeliac even though Dr dismissed this!) Thanks

In the UK the recommendation is not to treat until TSH reaches 10. Unfortunately you will be suffering many symptoms well before that level is reached, as you are currently. You may be able to persuade a doctro to treat sooner but it won't be easy at all and certainly not at your level. Remotely perhaps if the TSH went over range. Always test as close to 9am as possible & fasting as this is when TSH is highest.

Your ferritin is not awful but a level of around 100 is much better. Try eating chicken liver pate once a week or eating liver.

Your folate is 33% of the range so will need supplementing but don;t do anything until you get your B12 results.

many people with Hashimoto’s are also dairy intolerant…..and like gluten, not necessarily any obvious symptoms

Worth considering trial on dairy free too

Your results suggest your thyroid is starting to struggle

Majority of population without thyroid disease have TSH 1-1.5

Both Ft4 and Ft3 are slightly low

Was CRP result high?

Hi thanks so much. Interesting about the TSH. CRP is 0.49mg/L (range <3)

I'll try dairy free, thanks, I'll try anything to take my mind off worrying about my scan!

Do you think I should ask the Dr to look at these results or is it more self management at this stage (obv unless something sinister in scan) thanks again 🙏

with TSH under 5 most GP ‘s won’t entertain the idea thyroid might be a problem

But with high thyroid antibodies, and symptoms, a thyroid specialist might

Work on improving vitamin levels

Don’t take any Vitamin B Complex until had B12 retested

See what scan shows

You can add one image to the original post in this thread (which you've already done). You can also add a single image to each reply that you make.

When replying you'll see options at the bottom of your reply for Bold, Italics, Underline, a button for adding an @ sign to your post, a little emoji picture which links to lots of emojis you can add to your post 😀 😱 🤓, and a picture of mountains and a sun/moon.

If you click on the little mountain picture it opens up a dialog box allowing you to choose a picture to post that already exists on your PC, tablet, phone or other gadget.
