Confused about my results and advice on Thuroid specilist

Hi All. I have finally spoken to my Gp regarding my latest results and the appointment was just useless.

I've been give Iron tablets for my low iron. Couldn't tell me why it's low. And didn't seem bothered about my low throid , he said recheck in 3 months. I said even though now it's been low since August last year? 🤦🏼‍♀️

Also didn't seem fazed by my High antibodies .

I am a little confused as I had a private blood test with medichecks only around 3 weeks before I have the gp latest blood test. Can your antibodies fluctuate by this much in 3 weeks as I am very confused by this.

Medicheck said Thyroid peroxidase antibodies 25.7 range 0-35

My blood test for exactly same antibodys best with gp was below?

1260 u/ml range <60

How can they be so different 3 weeks apart when I've been having symptoms for a long time?

My Iron levels we 13 range 15-150 I think it was.

My Dr after me being very force full has now arranged for a

Full iron Panel blood test

Zinc test

Selenium

Free t3

Cortisol test.

Is there any other bloods i should ask for. Ive had All thyroid and fbc already.

The wouldn't retest my antibodies for another 3 months.

I've looked and found a thyroid specilist Dr Georgian Conway. Anyone give me any feedback or if its best I see an endocrinologist.

I know it must be done in private this part.

Only issue is her next avalible appointment is 7 weeks time and I won't have any up to date blood work as gp won't do any until 3 months.

Yes antibodies can fluctuate that much. And once you know they are positive there's really no point in retesting them because the actual level doesn't mean anything: they are either positive or negative.

TPO and Tg antibodies are nature's cleaning ladies. After an immune system attack ont he thyroid, trace of TPO and Tg leak into the blood, where it shouldn't be. So, the antibodies come racing along in force to make sure all those traces are removed. Once the blood is 'clean' again, most of the antibodies disappear. But there will always be some.

But your GP wouldn't know anything about that, because they are not taught about antibodies in med school, for some obscure reason! And, to be honest, they are only tested to find out if you have Hashi's or not. So, of no particular relevance as far as doctors are concerned. But you do need to know because levels can also fluctuate a lot when you have Hashi's, and you need to know why. Just don't worry about the numbers.

So that means I definitely have Hashimoto's does it? It's so much info to get my head around as Dr said I am fine . 🤦🏼‍♀️

So is it worth me seeing a speclist or no I'm.so confused and don't have loads of money to waste either.

If you have one positive result - i.e. antibody levels over-range - then you have Hashi's. The antibodies fluctuate but Hashi's doesn't go away.

But, as I said, doubtful your doctor knows the full significance of the antibodies. And, it is possible to be fine in the early stages of Hashi's, before the thyroid gets too damaged. And your doctor will probably only be looking at your TSH, anyway, because that's all he knows about (or thinks he does). And if your TSH is in-range then he belives you just have to be 'fine', despite any proof to the contrary. Doctors just know nothing about the thyroid, I'm afraid.

What were your other blood test results? Or did he just test TSH and antibodies?

Your iron is more than likely low because you're hypo and have low stomach acid, which makes it difficult to digest food and absorb nutrients. Did you have your vit D, vit B12 and folate tested?

OK, so as I said, your GP knows so little about thyroid that he is just looking at the TSH, and because that is still in-range, he thinks there's nothing wrong with you. That is pure ignorance on his part. Your Frees are so low that you are obviously hypo, and that's why your nutrients - all your nutrients - are too low.

This doctor is not going to make you well, because he just doesn't have a clue. You do need to see someone else, so hoping the lady mentioned below really does 'know her stuff' and is able to help you.

Yes, you have Hashimoto's so now you know that, you don't need to test antibodies again. You need your GP to test TSH, FT4 and FT3 at the same time, not just T3 so be careful of that one.

Your GP is not doing the right things to help you, apart from reluctantly looking into Iron, which is needed. So you may need to look at seeing someone privately. But you need to be careful who you see.

My HRT specialist told me about a woman thyroid specialist who does all her consults via video conference. I looked her up. She herself has Hashimoto's. I will private message you with her details provided I can locate them again. I read her web site. She knows her stuff. I already see a private endo so I haven't consulted with her. But her knowledge sounds good from her web site.

O right that's why me snd my husband were co fused if I did he it or not because the 2 test varied so much within few weeks so once you've had it once that's it you definitely have it. Thanks so much.

Oh he wasn't even going to do any more investigation I told him.i wanted the test from info given to me from everyone on this page. He was just going to give me iron tablets and send me on my way haha.

Good luck. I have had lots of good advice from my private endo. In the end he hasn't been able to give me my energy back as we had hoped, but he's done lots of other things and is very helpful. We keep experimenting.

Oh good luck I don't know if you've tried it but I take kefir every morning. And also take the rheal products. I have the gut one everyday in my kefir and have noticed a massive difference with my stomach. Just started on the balance tonic . May be worth a look xxx
