FT4 12.9 (12 - 22)

FT3. 4.2. (3.9 - 6.8)

Hi Tiggywoos! The great and good will ask for you to take a pre 9am blood test as this is the most accurate... then they will fly into action 😉

Fab thank you 🙏. Will I need cortisol too ?

TiggerMeAmbassador in reply toTiggywoos

Probably not to start with? Just a repeat of the above would be a great starting point 😉

If you have other results already add these into your bio

When you post the next results also let people know your symptoms and fill out your Bio a bit. It’s good to know what someone is struggling with most to be able to help. 🦋💚🦋

TSH would be higher in morning, though unlikely over 5

FT4: 12.9 pmol/l (Range 12 - 22)

Ft4 is only 9.00% through range

FT3: 4.2 pmol/l (Range 3.9 - 6.8)

Ft3 only 10.34% through range

Both Ft4 and Ft3 very low

TSH should be higher for such low thyroid levels

Suggests either low vitamin levels, or possibly central hypothyroidism

What’s your diet like

Are you vegetarian or vegan

Or gluten free or dairy free

When were vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin levels last tested

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Have you had thyroid antibodies tested

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)

20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis

In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Gluten intolerance and endometriosis suggest you are likely to have Hashimoto’s

TPO antibodies often reduce on gluten free diet, but you can still have Hashimoto’s with negative antibodies

Suggest you get ultrasound scan of thyroid

£100 privately if GP won’t agree

Perhaps experiment with taking a daily vitamin B complex initially

We can be low in other B vitamins

Have you had folate levels tested

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid)

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance

Difference between folate and folic acid

chriskresser.com/folate-vs-...

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid.

thyroidpharmacist.com/artic...

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate methyl folate supplement

Bowel resection likely to increase chances of low B12

totally agree about the suspect B12 .. been raised for over 3 years .

Folate (serum) 12. Range 3.9 - 20

Also have lymphopenia .. lymphocyte subsets low . I don’t take immunosuppressants just hydroxychloroquinine
