OCD and T3 -

Hi all,

While I don't have a formal diagnosis, I suffer with OCD. For awhile after I started NDT it all but disappeared.

Unfortunately, it's back. I have recognised a pattern in that it gets terrible with increased stress but is generally always underlying. I think triggered initially by PTSD.

I'm currently on levo and NDT.

I was wondering if anyone had any papers or lived experience of improvement in symptoms while on T3? I'm considering asking my consultant to switch me over to trial it.

I notice 2 months ago you said your TSH was 0.02, but do you have other readings for FT3 and FT4? How much thyroid medication are you currently taking?

Have you considered cognitive behaviour therapy to help with OCD symptoms? I have a friend with OCD and she found the sessions with a psychotherapist useful. Many GP surgeries can arrange this.

I'm on 50mcg levo and 105mg NDT.

I take levo and 60mg ndt first thing and then the remaining ndt before bed.

Folate was low, what vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Suggest you retest thyroid levels

Test early morning, ideally 9am

Last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Last dose NDT approx 8-12 hours before test

Admittedly, I've not taken any vitamins in several months.

I always test at 7:30am-ish so results are consistent but T3 has come back high a couple of times since splitting my dose which didn't feel like an accurate representation but should be as I test according to forum advice.

I have never split a dose of T3 before getting it tested.

I follow the advice of a scientist/researcher/doctor who was an expert about T3 especially, and he took his one daily dose of T3 in the middle of the night so that nothing could interfere with its uptake. He was also an Adviser to Thyroiduk.

Unfortunately, due to a bad fall that caused a bleed in his brain caused his premature death.

I take my T3 when I awake with one glass of water and wait an hour before eating. I have never had any queries about my results. The best thing is that I have no symptoms and feel well.

He stated that one daily dose of T3 saturated all of the T3 receptor cells which effect could last for three days as it sent out 'waves'. I trialled this myself:-

Took my once dailyT3 on day 1 - none on day 2 or day 3. I still felt well after day 3 and restarted my daily routine.

Dr John Lowe became a scientist and expert in the use of T3 as he started researching when very young as to why some people took their own lives. He had an experience of this within his family and he knew how devastating it was to the immediate family and for friends etc.

His website is now archived.
