I was ready to book an endo appointment based on my previous Medichecks Results on 21/6/22 indicating possible Central Hypothyroidism , but I took another test 17/10/22 as per Medichecks recommendation and my bloods look good but I feel a lot more tired. Can bloods fluctuate so much? I haven't been doing anything differently, in fact recently I have been more stressed than ever ! . I am disappointed now to be fair as was hoping these new bloods would also show low FT4 as my FT4seems to fluctuate. I really wanted 2 consecutive low FT4 results. Are Medichecks reliable? Any thoughts anyone?
Should I still see an endo based on my 21/6/22 results?? Or do my results if 17/10/22 make my thyroid look OK again ? I am feeling deflated
17/10/22
TSH 2.35 (0.27 -4.2) 1.77
FT3 5 (3.1 - 6.8) 4.76
FT4 14. 9 (12 -22)
TA 18 .5 (0-115) these were 12.3 in 2021
TPO 12.1 (0-34) these were <9 in 2021
21/ 6/22
TSH 1.77 (0.27 -4.2)
FT3 4.76 (3.1 - 6.8)
FT4 11. 6 (12 -22)

I have never been diagnosed and am not on medication. I posted my results here a lot and sometimes they show just below range FT4 and the lovely people here have said it does quite possibly indicate central hypo and then a test like my recent one and things look better. 🤔🤔☹☹.
Those recent tests on 17/10/22 included active b12 which was
>150 (25 - 150
Ferritin was 82 ( 30 -150)
Waiting on my Vit D 12 result from medichecks and folate. but I supplement with 4000iu with vitK and take a multivitamin too. Also magnesium glycinate.
I am vegetarian but don't eat eggsor cheese. Just natural Greek yoghurt sometimes.
I think you should consider a full iron panel test
Just testing ferritin doesn’t give the whole picture
You have a history of low iron
Medichecks full iron panel test here
Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first and retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing. It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron

Urine Iodine Test:
Specimen requirements: Urine
Cost: £71.00
Order Code: END25
Turnaround time: 5 - 10 days
Iodine is an essential trace element, vital for healthy thyroid function. Adequate levels are required to enable the production of T3 and T4 thyroid hormones, whilst also being required in other areas of health.
Deficiencies can lead to impaired heat and energy production, mental function and slow metabolism. Urine iodine is one of the best measures of iodine status. This test is not performed as a loading test, but can be used to establish existing levels or to monitor iodine supplementation.
Sorry for late reply - was very unwell yesterday - sore throat, headache ☹️
Yes you are correct, i do have a history of iron issues so i know its not ideal but my GP only does yearly bloods for me due in January 2023 so think i will take your advice and ring tomorrow and ask for my full bloods to be done again.
I will check out the iodine test also - it was Genova who did my saliva cortisol one .
Your Bio on your profile is the area people look to to get a bit of background. I’ve used mine to tell my story and act as a bit of a crib on how I got to full replacement dose.
Try and fill in your history so far and keep it up to date it will really help. 😊👍
I’m not able to give an in depth opinion as I’m not very experienced with regards to central hypothyroidism, but I would say do as SlowDragon asks and then you will get good detailed advice.
However, that said on a more general note, being in range is not all there is to it. Just because on your 2nd blood test FT4 dropped into the bottom of the range, certainly does not mean you are ok.
MANY Doctors think just ‘drop kicking’ you somewhere in range is sufficient. In fact, it is important to get you in the right place (if indeed the range represents your circumstances anyway). There are limitations to any model and the blood tests with their ranges are no exception (if only the GPs did but know).
The most important thing is for your SYMPTOMS (that really important factor they don’t like to address) are considered in conjunction with your test results, not ignored in favour of test results.
Tests should never be used to replace addressing symptoms. AND they should be calibrating the tests to you, not you to the lab work. We are all different.
So when a person says “oh doc I feel terrible!” and a doctor says “ but I can’t understand it ???? your bloods are fine”
That is a classic case of treating the lab work.🙄
I’ve been reading round the subject nearly 2 years and slowly getting up to speed. I would strongly encourage anyone to do the same and become your own health advocate. 😊👍
thanks for taking the time to reply to me - i have update my bio a little as you have suggested - thank you.
I am not taking any medication but i hope you message still is relevant to me in that being in range still does not mean anything if i have symptom still. I was very down after the blood results as i felt well thats it - but your message has made me think again so thank you.
I know i go back and forth a bit on this forum which must annoy some of the very very helpful and knowledgeable members who reply to my messages but i am so so grateful every time i get a reply.
See i know i will have to risk trying an Endo and have a very very good recommendation from a kind person on here who has Central Hypo. I guess as i have said before that because my symptoms are not just as bad as others (i read for those with central hypo milder symptoms are a common symptom!) that i am afraid of the levo - mainly the risk of hair loss but if i never try something i will never know if it can help so i have to break the fear cycle and commit!
But i will get my full bloods done again with my GP just to see where the nutrients are at first - AGAIN !!
Hi Caroline- yes it is very scary and the anxiety I felt when under medicated was all consuming. My journey has been different to yours, but it is interesting that you are concerned about hair loss. I was hypo for years - I suspect. I would rock up at the doctors over the years; plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel like symptoms, De Quirvines, which is a thumb tendon inflammation (excruciating) was treated with a steroid injection for that bla bla won’t bore 😂 but there’s more ……..
Anyway when grossly under medicated at the start of treatment- I did lose some hair - not dramatically but enough to notice- it seemed a bit thinner and my parting seemed a little wider. I thought my anxiety was making me see things and pushed these negative thoughts down and focused on getting optimal dose.. So I have been on a full replacement dose for just over a year now and strangely enough, when walking down the prom a couple months ago in the breeze all this year old regrowth started blowing round on my head I have hair at two lengths! And no I haven’t had layers cut in LOL! So it does look a little bit scruffy, but boy am I glad to see this new hair growth. It confirms what I thought - that having been under medicated for a significant period I had been losing hair, but once I was adequately medicated it started to grow back 🤗 So that’s my take on it - in my experience the only reason I think it fell out was because I was undermedicated on 25 µg of levothyroxine (a child’s starter dose) for six months.
I’m sure my GP thought she was topping me up - silly billy. 🙄😬
Thankfully this forum gave me all the advice I needed to rectify things quickly. Pushing for those dose increases in a timely manner meant that I recovered far more quickly than had I worked to the doctors arbitrary ‘see you in three months’😱 I used my symptoms as a guide and pushed hard submitting printed requests in the form of a report a few days before the telecon appointment for the last two doses increases, which I think was a significant factor in the achieving my full therapeutic dose.
