propranolol will affect TSH, Ft4 and Ft3

Extraordinary how endocrinologist is unaware

i feel I've been left in limbo I feel I have to come of them then do another blood test. They have helped to dull down some of my symptoms so reluctant to stop them . He said as I'm on such a low dose it wouldn't effect my levels so quickly they went down. S

Over 20 years that I was on propranolol I saw 6 leading thyroid specialist doctors or endocrinologists …….not one of them considered propranolol was a problem

24 hour urine test ….likely for checking cortisol levels

I have removed your image for two reasons

1) It's impossible to read the figures, you need to zoom in on the actual figures and leave out all the white space

2) Your full name and NHS number were showing, this leaves you vulnerable to identity theft.

Feel free to repost your image so that it is readable and doesn't show your personal details.

yes ….you can read my profile

Only joining this forum, getting full thyroid and vitamin levels tested and optimal and addressing food intolerances did I eventually get off propranolol

Do you have a printed copy of the London results?

There may be an error, it may relate to something else.

Apart from 1 elevated FT4 there’s no confirmed sign of thyroid issue, some your FT4 have been on low side.

Your repeat function have all in range.

A Private TRab TPO & TGab antibodies all negative a NHS TSIab also negative.

Propranolol does have an affect on lowering conversion from FT4 to FT3.  Which is why it often prescribed along side an anti thyroid.  It doesn’t have a sufficient impact on it own to reduce continuously high levels -  that need a specific treatment.

This tends to apply to those who are on higher doses for a long time.

You had 10mg x2 daily for only a few short weeks.  I don’t think that would have a significant impact.

definitely no error. Unfortunately doctors don’t look for causes or one off elevations. They only look to treat when there is a continuous issue.

Would often be helpful if they did, but they will be looking as other explanations such as cortisol.

thankyou I've asked for second opinion from the endrocolgist in London who put me on propranolol and said it was overactive thyroid or inflammation.
