Why are some doctors clueless

My GP refer to the hospital so I can get prescription of t3.

Saw the consultant few weeks back. Without any blood work, she said I need to increase my t4. She also said i should take it in the mornings before breakfasts. Not at night whichi usually do, and has worked for me for all these years.

I told how much t3 I usually take but that i had not taken any for a few weeks. I told her this 3 times. She order blood test to be done same day. Which will not paint an accurate picture.

Now she's change my prescription of t4, with no t3. Although I have no side effects taking t3.

I'm just going to do my own thing. She's saying it's better to take mornings. Tried that long ago, didn't work out.

I wish that these doctors can go through what we go through. Maybe they'll understand better what it's like to live with this condition.

Why why why.

Ok rant over. Feel free to add your misery to mine.

Doctors aren’t taught a great detail about thyroid.

They focus on TSH & are instructed to treat with Levo & expect that to be adequate treatment for all.

Doctors are applying 1 size fits all approach.  Most do well with levo, most find taking in morning suits them best.

Doctors can’t appreciate not everyone isn’t identical and don’t want the job of figuring out how to treat anyone other than what standard.

The criteria & barriers to T3 make is virtually impossible to prescribe, and as it’s made so difficult doctors simply don’t want the task of advocating for it.

It would help them and us, if they dids bit more research. Things change all the time. They can't still think that this antiquated approach still works.

If you have already experimented with the time of day you take your thyroid hormones and have discovered that you feel best taking them at night then ignore this doctor.

Why should you do something that makes you feel worse just because she said you should?

I could only find this paper with a horrendous link, but it does work. The actual paper starts on page 2.

Thank you. I'll share with them. I just don't do well in selling ideas or anything for that matter, thus I just nod and continue to do what's best for me. Pity my first consultant retired. Wish she could reappear.

Take your thyroid meds the way it works for you. I have learned over the years to not divulge too much information to Endocrinologist since this group of doctors are very narrow minded and think they are smarter then everyone and anything you say about your health is wrong.

I wouldn’t have taken the decrease in meds if she/he surprised me with a blood test but next time you know to not take your meds before the appointment since she may spring a test on you .
