private bloods

hello,

Who would you more recommend for private tests please? Blue horizon or Medicheck?

I think it's Medi which is advising to book full bloods taken by a nurse rather than finger prick option which apparently might give false Iron count.

Last time my GP only did TSH and T4 when I requested a full check.

I don't know why some people can live normal life with no symptoms and I can't seem to get back to normal.

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

Looking at previous posts…you increased to 75mcg daily a month ago

Blue horizon includes cortisol…..if you suspect adrenal issue

Otherwise Medichecks is usually the cheapest

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning. Watch out for postal strikes, probably want to pay for guaranteed 24 hours delivery

Thank you for quick reply. I haven't done private years before. I haven't seen Endo since Jan/Feb and was disappointed hence why I asked GP for tests but clearly ignored the email and only did tsh and T4 but that showed TSH at nearly 3 which fire me is too hight and gives me symptoms. Hence why the higher dose. Now I'm starting to feel anxious, irritated, stressed and my skin is getting terrible, greasy, spots, constipation, hot, burning feet (what I had in the past when all this has started). At least hair stopped falling after size change.I'm taking B12, D, magnesium bit also drinking electrolytes and occasionally in drinking Abbott Ensure which is filled with minerals and vitamins. The last one only on occasion in the last 2 weeks post covid. I'm not great with taking vitamins but that's why I want to test whatever is needed and got on top of it.

I don't have Hashimoto but I've decided to go gluten free which I started a week ago to see if it helps with bloating.

I'm also thinking about getting another private Endo visit as I don't really understand why tsh fluctuates when on Levo. I'm taking the same brand Wockhardt and have been note since spring.

Also I think I could benefit with seeing medical nutritionist.

Looking at previous posts

Don’t think you have ever had TG antibodies tested or ultrasound scan of thyroid

Significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients only have high TG antibodies

20% of Hashimoto’s patients never have high thyroid antibodies….ultrasound scan recommended if TG antibodies are negative

Opening post …TPO antibodies 38 …..suggests just positive for Hashimoto’s (but no range)

Previous vitamin results

250 H (total) Vit D 47.2 nmol/l

Vit B12 376 Ng/L norm 211-911

Ferritin 38.1 ug/L norm 10-291

No folate

Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin all far too low

Exactly what vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Approx how much do you weigh in kilo

75mcg levothyroxine is only one step up from starter dose

I had multiple scans and fine needle biopsy in 2020/2021 because of Subacute Thyroiditis.I was told by Endo that I have hashimotos and then that I don't when I asked for confirmation. I'm taking city's as I mentioned above and there are all from Solgar

Also, I have never had Iodine tested which is an issue for millions of people in Poland where I'm from post Chernobyl disaster.

I was put on 75 daily 6x a week plus 100 on Sunday back in January and it made be very symptomatic and tsh dropped to 0.36 so I'm not sure a higher dose with benefit me.

I'm currently 63kg which is way over what I have been my entire life being only 160cm. I put all that weight in the last 5 years where I had loads symptoms but pinned them to ME/CFS which not I'm wondering if I actually have. Symptoms are very similar with hypo which I clearly not know I suffer from.

Most important results are always Ft3 followed by Ft4

Many people have very low or suppressed TSH when adequately treated

All four vitamins need to be optimal

I'll order some tests and see what they show. Thank you for all your advise 😊

Forgot to ask; why only do private Monday or Tuesday? Also, when to stop vitamin supplements?

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply tobajmon

Because you need to get test kit to lab to be processed before the weekend

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Stop any supplements that contain biotin a week before blood test as biotin can falsely affect test results …..consider instead taking separate folate and B12 that week

Stop iron supplements a week before

I take separate b12, D and magnesium

So just don’t take these on morning of the test

I’ve done a lot of adjusting dose according to symptoms over the years. In me, hot feet is something that happens for a few days following a dose increase, or if a dose reduction is needed. Just saying… we’re all different.
