I had a hemithyroidectomy on 25th August and stitches removed the following week. Since then I've noticed a hard lump above the scar that feels numb to touch.
Anyone had anything like this?

Something to check with you doctor.
Is it swollen, discoloured, warm to touch?
Is rest of incision healing well?
Hope you are well otherwise. Was to operation uncomplicated?
Do you have follow up and recheck of thyroid function scheduled?
It's not warm, I checked that as know its a sign of infection. After reading online I'm wondering if it's fluid there. The incision is generally healing well & no complications during the op.
I think I'm recovering fairly well as voice is improving and no longer taking painkillers. But everything around the throat still feels uncomfortable and some discomfort on swallowing.
My follow up appointment is 6wks post op unless anything untoward is found in the histology of the lobe.
I really need the results before I go away on 20th September though otherwise nobody will give me travel insurance. I think I'll have to ring them tomorrow and ask if I can have them and also ask about the swelling.
Good to hear your recovering well & voice improving.
Sounds like a plan chasing up tomorrow.
Hope all the results come back good soon.
still no results which is very frustrating as I can't get travel insurance without it.
He said I'll call you when they come through unless it's bad news then you'll get a letter for an appointment because they don't like giving bad news over the phone. Seems ridiculous as obviously I'd know it was bad news if a letter arrives with an appointment that's sooner. That's if it comes before I go away on 20th September
very silly to tell you that. If someone arranges an appointment even in error, youll assume it must mean bad news and you'll know nothing. I had appointment arranged after ive been discharged. Sometimes one hand dosent know what the other is doing.
If I get a letter I'm going to ring and ask for a call. I should have some choice. As it is I had to change my post op appointment twice because they didn't listen to me telling them numerous times when I'm away or my preferred location. 1st appointment was cancelled to be sent another for 17th October still in the wrong location so had to ring again and was offered one for 10th in my preferred location. Why they didn't give me the earlier one in the right location in the first place baffles me. So I know they will probably send another letter for the new appointment date
Look up keloid - some of us make a scar a proper scar! The specialist will know by touch. In the meantime, it may be worth showing the GP or one of the practice nurses just to put your mind at rest. Have a nice break!
I saw one of the Dr's in ENT yesterday who felt it and said he thinks it's part of the healing process
