Hi, I'm brand new. Never had a thyroid gland, found my perfect dose. Frantically searching the web for options. Moving to Greece from NZ in September 2022. Really, really want to continue my whole porcine 320mg daily dose. I have stocked up as much as I legally can. I hear from the company that bovine whole thyroid via Thyrovanz is being returned from Greece sometimes. Any ideas to assist in my wellbeing? Thank you.

Marz , question for you.

Marz to the Rescue.
No NDT in Greece to my knowledge. In the 15 years Ii was there I was not aware of any. Dithyron is a UniPharma product containing T4 and T3 and available OTC.
Thanks, unfortunately I can't take synthetic thyroid meds.
Do make sure you arrive in Greece with a report from your NZ Docs stating your special needs for special meds. It may help in the future should you need to import. Having a parcel sent to UK and then re-sent to Greece should work at the moment. I think we are all concerned about the future. I buy on-line and I have heard mutterings that the powers that be are trying to legislate against this - all under the umbrella of keeping us safe ?? Yeah !
I found pharmacists in Greece VERY helpful. Head for the boss and explain your case - perhaps he is able to import your meds - worth a try. Are you moving to Athens or an island ?
Reading your response this morning Marz gave me a chill. I was wondering when the powers that be would interfere with our health and stop us buying online. It's all part of the same thing....control. Very depressing!
Debi Evans - Nursing Correspondent - mentioned it on UK Column News - about the MHRA and its proposals.
Great, another follower of UK Column. VERY revealing isn't it. Quite horrendous and frightening what is happening to the NHS. But of course there is a lot more besides.
Indeed ! Love the way UKC dig deep ! They started off in Plymouth some 16 years ago - local boys ! I'm in N Devon !
Is it possible to have a friend post on your medication to you (possibly labelled as a gift or something else misleading)? Or could you visit NZ a few times a year to collect your own supply?
In the UK these are the kind of methods we tend to use to get hold of dessicated animal thyroid (NDT), as it is very hard to get hold of here
Another alternative would be to see how get on with the synthetic version, combining T4 and T3, which are easy to get hold of in Greece. You will likely be able to buy over the counter and be completely free to dose it yourself. But I would definitely be reluctant to change myself if I was doing well.
To travel to NZ a few times a year will be pricey, $4000 a pop and long haul; I have no reason to go back. My doctor and compounding pharmacy is ok sending it to Greece but it may get stopped and returned. It might be easier to have it sent to the UK and go there to visit family. I can not do the synthetic meds - I've just spent 5 years trying all number of variants and I am now returning to whole thyroid and what worked really well, it's been a cluster stuff of epic proportions, very expensive and detrimental, I had to put my foot down and say enough is enough, I was getting sicker every week. Thanks for the idea of disguising the meds, perhaps to UK instead.
Remember that lying on a customs declaration is likely an offence in the sender's country. And we must be aware that misleading would likely be classified as lying in a court of law.
Just pointing it out so that no-one does anything they come to regret.
Yep, I have heard similar reports which is frustrating. Thank you for your info.
On this forum, we try to maintain the distinction between NDT (natural desiccated thyroid) medicines with a declared thyroid hormone content and some form of authorisation. And "glandulars" which do not make specific and verifiable claims and are not subject to inspection/authorisation.
With glandulars we simply do not know the thyroid hormone content, and how consistent that is from tablet to tablet (or capsule), batch to batch, year to year.
Any product with declared thyroid hormone content would be regarded as a prescription-only medicine in the UK - and probably in many other countries.

I have created, and try to maintain, a document containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world.
