My daughter and I are running out of nutri thyroid. As we live in Dubai it is difficult to source an alternative. Could someone pm me how to buy or order ndt in Greece as I am considering a trip to Athens to get it.

Thank you

Just want to be absolutely sure you get the answers you are hoping for:

Nutri Thyroid is an over-the-counter supplement which apparently contains no, or little thyroid hormone.

NDT is usually thought of as being full potency desiccated thyroid.

I am fairly sure that desiccated thyroid is not available in Greece but those with experience, or who live there, would be better placed to give you a full answer. No idea if anything like Nutri Thyroid is available.

NDT is not available in Greece (I've checked with several pharmacists), but T3 and T4 are sold OTC in most pharmacies. They can also be ordered online and shipped anywhere in the world (depending on the laws applicable in your country).

If it's NDT you want, but don't have a prescription, it is available from several online pharmacies. I know of one in the US and several in Thailand who also ship from there. PM me if you want links.

I would be interested in having information about getting T3 from a pharmacy in the USA if you could let me have the details that would be great. Thank you Ann S

I live in Greece where you can buy T4 - T3 and T4/T3 over the counter - but not NDT....

If its NDT you want then you cannot buy it in Greece. You also mentioned Nutri-Thyroid which I used to buy on-line from Nutri Ltd. If it is NDT you want then ask in a new post for people to PM you information as to where you can buy it on-line .....

Sue-b,

You could choose from the following options:

1. Can anyone personally recommend a supplement as effective as NutriThyroid;

2. Ask members to PM you online sources for NDT;

3. Ask members to PM you online sources for T4 and/or T3.

Thank you I do appreciate everyone taking the time to reply. Nutrithyroid certainly worked for me and I'm still hoping I'll be able to get hold of it. Reading the comments above though it seems as though a combined pill is not such a good idea because it's then difficult to tweak the amounts?

Sue-b,

NutriMeds have said that NutriThyroid is stuck at US customs and they are working to resolve it.

If you've not taken thyroid meds I think the combined dose of T4+T3 in Dithyron will be too much for you.

Delia58,

That may not be a good option for someone not used to T4 or T3 as it is hard to 'tweak' the fixed proportions of T4 and T3 in the combined tablet.

Good to know, I have always bought the two hormones separately from Greece! I guess it's like Novothyral in Germany; that is, 100 mcg of T4 and 20 mcg of T3 per pill so, basically, the same ratio as in NDT?

Delia58,

You can buy 1/4 grains of NDT which has 9.5mcg T4 and 2.25mcg T3 so can start at much lower doses than Dithyron.

Novothyral, which is available in Germany and several other countries (prescription only drug), contains T3 and T4 in a fixed ratio of 1:4, which is exactly the same ratio as in NDT, as far as I know. I think that, in the US, there are brands containing less T3 (for instance, in a 1:5 ratio which is said to be closer to what a healthy human thyroid gland produces), but I have never heard of that in Europe...I guess that if the fixed ratio in either NDT or Dithyron does not suit you, you can always split the pills, and/or add pure T4 or T3...the possibilities are endless.

The ratio in desiccated thyroid varies!

The USA products and Thyroid S are approximately 4.22:1, Erfa 4:38:1, Thiroyd is 4.21:1.

However, there is a lie in all of these figures. The weight ratio only makes any sense if you are thinking:

1 unit weight of T4 becomes 1 unit weight of T3

Because T3 is significantly lighter than T4, it actually works out closer to:

1 unit weight of T4 becomes 0.81 unit weight of T3

In that case the T4:T3 ratio - thought of as a number of molecules of each - is close to 3.44:1.

Although the USA make Thyrolar is widely quoted, so far as I know it has not been available for at least ten years!

Pj99, As I understand it, NDT is not available in Greece. T3 used to be available over the counter until very recently, but now requires a prescription.
