Does anyone have Metavive or does anyone know anything about it?
Metavive: Does anyone have Metavive or does... - Thyroid UK
Metavive
Odinil
Metavive is a thyroid glandular with no declared hormone content. We do have members who use it and get on well with it, we also have members who have tried it and it did nothing for them.
Have you checked out their website?
Yes i did look it up. Ive read some reviews. I was interested to see if anyone was taking it. Is it recognised by doctors and consultants. If i told my nhs consultant that im going to take Metavive what do you think would be her answer. I have no thyroid due to cancer and take T3.

I really don't know, probably pretty negative I would imagine.
Odinil,
Thyroid glandulars are not recognised by conventional medicine and I too think a NHS consultant would offer a very negative response, but if you think Metavive might help then you should try some.
Glandulars can be powerful and although I personally can not get on with them, Dr Peatfield was a huge advocate. Have you read his book 'Your Thyroid & How To Keep It Healthy?'
I have been taking Metavive for about a year. Personally I feel much better on a combination of Metavive and Thyroxine than when I’m only taking Thyroxine.
I can confirm that. I also take an MV III daily (thyroxine in the morning, MV in the afternoon) and I feel much better. Free levels are higher, and my body temperature is > 36.xx°, I have more energy throughout the day.
I was reading with interest about MV products. Could I ask you a couple of questions please. Would you recommend starting with the lower dose 40mg first. Is the only other difference being one is porcine based and one bovine based? Thanking you 🙏
Auders, amongst other considerations your starting dose would depend on what you already take, recent TFTs and nutrients, how patient you are …
I take a combination of porcine and bovine and I’m getting along just fine. However, my experience hasn’t been plain sailing and for a while I switched to a different brand when nucleotides were added thinking they were disagreeing with me. It turned out I was taking way too much which gave me many symptoms of being over-medicated
I’ve been taking them for maybe 5 years now and they’ve been absolutely no help with trying to lose the weight I gained but(!) since gradually raising my dose again and adopting a slightly different way of eating, I’m a little less blubbery. I’m not holding my breath though because I’ve been here before; I adopt a new way and things start moving until they don’t move any more
Frustrating but all part of the thyroid game
Thank you very much for your insight. I’m new to the journey so have a lot to learn. Due to age (68) they only started me on 25mcg levo, it’s been a bit of a battle to get up to 62.5mcg, I’ll be doing battle again in a fortnight or so to see if I can get to 75mcg. So looking into different options. Again many thanks 🙏
If you’re going to be testing thyroid levels before your next “battle” make sure you know the protocol on what time of day to take the test, when to take your last dose of levo, etc. It’s really important because could make all the difference in GP agreeing (or not) to raising levo
TSH is heavily relied upon by medics to gauge levo dosage and if TSH is considered too low it’s very possible and many would say probable, that your dosage will be kept the same or even lowered irrespective of whether you feel well or unwell. It’s something to be keenly aware of, so if you’re unfamiliar with the system, you won’t be able to play the game
There are many posts on here that cover it; taking a moment to learn what to do is a worthwhile investment
Morning Noelnoel, yes thanks I’ve clocked the recommended procedure. It’s been a bugger to get early appointments tho! My TSH is 3.77 [0.27-4.2] so hopefully some wriggle room (with MMH) have GP appt for TSH tomorrow morning so here’s hoping. Once again thanks for input. It’s a dreadful situation when all you want is to feel “normal” 🙏
Yes, I tried Metavive II for several months (alongside T4) and no appreciable difference.
Gave me really bad headaches and made me depressed. But I have graves disease and apparently there is something in it that can cause issues with people with AI diseases.
You can see from the comments here that, as with many things, it's a matter of trial and error. You have to find out what works personally. I wouldn't rely exclusively on MV, but some people seem to get along. Anyway, as a supplement, a positive effect is possible.
I have been taking Metavive II for 3 years now and find it much better for me than the Thyroxine that I took for the 10 years previously. On Metavive my TSH has come down to below 1, and I feel more normal than I have felt for years.
