Metavive is a thyroid glandular ie dried and desiccated animal thyroid gland, so in effect, is an NDT that is sold as a food supplement rather than as a licensed drug. Consequently it can't state its hormone components, but the amount of gland it contains is indicated by its name ie Metavive I, Metavive II (not 11 as you wrote) etc. So for instance, Metavive IV contains 65 mcg bovine gland compared with Metavive I which contains 15 mcg porcine gland. For those who don't have a prescription for an NDT it can be a useful alternative.

There is a difference between Metavive l and ll and Metavive lll and lV.

Metavive l and ll are porcine. Metavive ll is twice the strength of Metavive l.

Metavive lll and lV are bovine. Metavive lV is twice the strength of Metavive lll.

You can't compare the porcine with the bovine, the hormone content of a pig's thyroid is a bit different from the hormone content of a cow's.

Hello. New to Metavive and curious to learn more. Does the porcine and bovine work in similar way? Which is the best? I´ve been trying Metavive II /2 per day but I don´t feel anything is happening. Do you think I need a bigger dose? How long before You notice any progress? Thank You

Hi Seaside Susie I have just seen this post from you, I am really interested in Metavive, and thinking of trying it, your above post is very helpful understanding the differences, but which one is better - the porcine or bovine? how do you choose? I went on the link you have put up, and then saw Adrenavive11 and 111 and a Dr Lam Adrenal capsules....what are these? and are they different to Metaive, there is no explanation what Metavive or Adrenavive are for, or which ones you should chose....I am really confused as to how you choose which one to try, please can you help me understand, thank you

As always with the "which one is better" question, it's the one that suits the individual.

If you want a higher T3 content, then my understanding is that pig's thyroid has a higher T3 content than cow's thyroid. But we have to bear in mind that as Metavive is a glandular, there is no hormone content revealed. If there was, it wouldn't be an over the counter supplement, it would be a prescription medication.

Adrenavive11 and 111 and a Dr Lam Adrenal capsules....what are these? and are they different to Metaive, there is no explanation what Metavive or Adrenavive are for

It's explained in the product descriptions.

"Metavive I contains 15mg of freeze-dried Porcine Thyroid Gland" so is used for the thyroid. All Metavive supplements are Thyroid.

"Adrenavive I contains 160mg of freeze-dried Bovine Whole Adrenal Gland" so is used for adrenal support.

"Adrenavive II contains 125mg of freeze-dried Bovine Adrenal Cortex" so again is used for adrenal support, the difference being this one has adrenal cortex only, not the whole gland like Adrenavive 1.

All Adrenavive supplements are Adrenal. The product description tells us whether it's whole adrenal gland or just the adrenal cortex.

Thank you SeasideSusie, I think I understand a little bit more now, and I understand you can try Metavive for an under active thyroid instead of T4 levo and T3 liothyronine pills. But I dont really understand the Adrenavive as in when do you take this? Why do you take this? Sorry if I am being a bit stupid but is it something I should consider taking for an under active thyroid? I am still trying to understand what it is for x

Adrenavive is adrenal support. You would take this if you've had an adrenal test and found to have low cortisol. It's not a thyroid hormone replacement.

Just one more question please SeasideSusie, do you know what the difference is between Metavive product and the Nutri-meds product? or are they the same? And have I got this right - they are not classed as NDT because we don't know if they actually have any T3 and T4 in them? But Thyro Gold is an NDT because that has got T3 and T4 in?....I think that's turned into more than 1 question! sorry

do you know what the difference is between Metavive product and the Nutri-meds product?

From their websites:

Nutrimeds Bovine Thyroid 65mg Lyophilized Bovine Thyroid Tissue (from New Zealand) - Excipients: Gelatin from free range sources, L-Leucine, L-Lysine, Silica,

Metavive lV freeze-dried (lyophilised) Bovine Thyroid Gland 65mg (currently says

from Europe) - Excipients: Certified Organic Rice Flour; Vegetable Cellulose Capsule

So there doesn't appear to be any difference apart from the excipients. Nutrimeds do 130mg capsules, Metavive lV is their highest dose capsule at 65mg.

they are not classed as NDT because we don't know if they actually have any T3 and T4 in them?

Correct. If any hormone content was mentioned, it could not be classed as supplement, it would have to be a prescription medication.

But Thyro Gold is an NDT because that has got T3 and T4 in?....

Incorrect. From ThyroGold's website:

Thyro-Gold™ contains all the natural contents of the bovine thyroid gland.

Ingredients state:

Bovine Thyroid Powder (from New Zealand) 300mg

L-Aspartic Acid 100mg

Coleus Forskohlii 25mg

Then there are the excipients.

They also do different dose capsules.

ThyroGold is not an NDT, it's not sold as an NDT, it is sold as a supplement, same as Metavive and Nutrimeds Thyroid. There is no mention of any hormone. They are all "glandulars". And of course, because they use the whole gland, one might expect that there may be some hormone content.

Thank you SeasideSusie, that has made it all very clear to me, I now think that all 3 of them are really the same, so it makes sense if I did decide to try one, to get Medivive as that is sold in the Uk and therefore the most easiest to get.
