Struggle with organisation and concentration.

I was lucky enough to see Dr Skinner about 15 years ago who prescribed me with armour after I couldn't tolerate thyroxine This was initially life changing but fast forward to now and I still struggle to concentrate and be organised. I am really messy and just want to be able to reach my potential and I am now 56. I am loathe to get a diagnosis of adhd as I think it is a symptom of thyroid problems . I have been reading about thyroid hormone resistance and wonder if I have that. I tested positive on both sides for the d102 test . Can anyone recommend a good private Dr who treats with ndt. or any additional vitamin tests as well as the usual thyroid panel. I have hashimotos .I do know in the past beta blockers have made a huge difference and helped me pass my driving test / interviews etc. When I was younger I struggled to hold down a job and also struggled with exams although I believe I am reasonably intelligent . I have been looking after my child and both parents who had dementia (my Father passed away recently. ) I believe they also were mistreated/not treated for their thyroid problems. also my late Sister who had Addison's disease was outstandingly messy. I have not had a blood test lately so no results to show . I try to get them done privately as I have just given up with the Dr's. I self medicate and self source thyroid S but much prefer armour and the like which I haven't taken for ages as it has gone up in price. Any advice would be appreciated thanks.

Was just looking through previous posts for any blood test results

Noticed in a post 3 years ago you said you tested positive for Dio2 ….suggest you check your paperwork….are you positive or negative for Dio2

You have Hashimoto’s

Are you strictly gluten free and/or dairy free

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Suggest you get full thyroid and vitamin testing done

Medichecks currently have 21% off testing

I have the faulty gene on both sides. I try to be gluten and dairy free and sometimes take selenium and vit b12. due to limited finances I have struggled to get supplements and be strictly gluten and dairy free but I have l recently started working again so financially things are looking up and will be able to work on my diet and supplements etc . thanks.

I tested negative on both sides for the d102 test

I tested POSITIVE on both sides for the d102 test

I have the same issue with piss poor concentration, excessive day dreaming, and total disorganisation and ability to plan. Currently finding washing and sorting the clothes is hell on earth.

I am very interested in the cognitive symptoms of hypothyroidism - episodic memory, attention, spatial awareness etc etc and the interaction of T3 and T4 in isolation and together with certain functions of cognition.

I experimented on myself and discovered that T4 mono-therapy in high doses around 175mcg upwards vastly improved my concentration and organisation ability. The difference is huge. Everything goes smoothly. However I am also dead exhausted, in pain and feeling crap in other ways without some T3. But I found paradoxically, that adding any T3 vastly diminished the effect. I went back to being sloppy and disorganised. But less depressed!

T3 helps with the energy and certain emotional responses. In terms of concentration I can see the fine details, and focus on things I bias towards, but I lose the overall picture.

T4 lets me see the overall picture, but I miss some of the finer details.

I resolved to pursue an ADHD diagnosis (Am having fat luck as the NHS won't do it because I'm an adult) because I hear the drugs that can be prescribed with a diagnosis do help with speed of executive functioning and I am tired of trying to get everything right on thyroid hormones and supplements alone. It's not always possible.

thanks Alanna . Have you started taking the drugs yet? I know that the occasional times I have taken beta blockers it made all the difference. I am not getting any younger and know that if I could just focus I could have an amazing life and be financially secure. Struggling financially is another stress, also people tell me that I am an amazing photographer and I should set up my own business but it's just not going to happen unless I can just learn to focus I also have a beautiful daughter and don't want her to suffer.
