NDT and alcohol

Naughty holiday question coming up.: Does anyone know if it’s ok to drink alcohol within 30min affter/2hours before of taking NDT?

I am going on holiday soon and I split my dose (one first thing, one in the afternoon). There is a distinct possibility i might have a glass of something alcoholic with lunch 😊, but just worried I might upset my hormones?

Thoughts?

Thank you!!

This is an excerpt from the following link:-

"The important takeaway message is that alcohol impairs thyroid function dramatically and patients are often unaware that it depletes them of nutrients essential for thyroid health. Avoiding alcohol may be the best first step to optimizing thyroid to improve mood, digestion, energy and overall health rather than reaching for medications.

I have come across some people for whom alcohol changes their attitudes, i.e. from being normal to extremely angry.

They say alcohol amplifies your feelings. Some people become funnier, loving etc and for some it brings out their darker side.

In vino veritas, also written as in uino ueritas, is a Latin phrase that means "In wine, there is truth", suggesting a person under the influence of alcohol is more likely to speak their hidden thoughts and desires. The phrase is sometimes continued as, "In vīnō vēritās, in aquā sānitās", i.e., "In wine there is truth, in water there is good sense (or good health)." Similar phrases exist across cultures and languages.

The expression, together with its counterpart in Greek, "Ἐν οἴνῳ ἀλήθεια" (En oinō alētheia), is found in Erasmus' Adagia, I.vii.17.[1] Pliny the Elder's Naturalis historia contains an early allusion to the phrase.[2] The Greek expression is quoted by Athenaeus of Naucratis in his Deipnosophistae;[3] it is now traced back to a poem by Alcaeus.[4]

Herodotus asserts that if the Persians decided something while drunk, they made a rule to reconsider it when sober. Authors after Herodotus have added that if the Persians made a decision while sober, they made a rule to reconsider it when they were drunk (Histories, book 1, section 133).[5] The Roman historian Tacitus described how the Germanic peoples kept counsel at feasts, where they believed that drunkenness prevented the participants from dissembling.[6]

Let’s hope the biggest decisions I need to make on holiday are whether to have another glass of wine 😂

Thank you. I appreciate alcohol is bad for you.

It is not always bad for people. Only if they take it in excess then other health problems may occur.

Do consider that the Italian product Liotir is, pretty much, a solution of T3 in alcohol (ethanol). :-)

There are many previous posts/replies which have discussed that those who are hypothyroid are very often much less tolerant of alcohol. So take care.

Thank you. That’s interesting to know

I’m not a huge drinker anyway. But I do like a cocktail or 2 😉
