Liquid Levo

Hi

Following on from my blood test query yesterday and thanks for all the replies, one member suggested trying liquid Levo. After two years of being on Accord my FT4 and FT3 really haven't improved much from where they were at diagnosis although my TSH has decreased.

I wondering if I am struggling to absorb Levo in tablet form. I have a GP face to face this afternoon about my balance problem and was wondering if it's worth asking. I don't know what the criteria is for prescribing it. I know it's pricey so many GP's are reluctant. I'm not having problems tolerating Accord Levo, it's just it doesn't seem to be working.

Just to add I'm absolutely scrupulous about taking it on an empty stomach, away from food, drinks and other medications and supplements.

So you recently increased levothyroxine to 150mcg

Retest thyroid levels in 6-8 weeks

Discuss with GP ……If not seeing any increase in Ft4 or Ft3 after next test

Options

1) trial liquid levothyroxine

2) NHS or private referral to thyroid specialist endocrinologist

Approx how much do you weigh in kilo

Are you lactose intolerant or gluten intolerant

Lactose intolerance often results in needing high dose levothyroxine

Hi

Not lactose intolerant but eat very little in the way of dairy or gluten.

You might need lactose free levothyroxine

Aristo (100mcg) only

Glenmark (new kid on the block) - 25mcg, 50mcg and 100mcg

Teva …..lactose free…but mannitol upsets many people

I've sampled both liquid ampules and gel capsules of Tirosint, which was the only brand in the US available until recently. If you decide to give those a try then remind your GP that the absorption is 98-103% of liquid/gel as opposed to the 80% of Levo in pill form. I switched over from my 88mcg in pill to liquid and it was too much because of the higher absorption.
