geordieclaire120573 profile image

Another update spoke to gp about my results. My 206 raised thyroglobulin antibodies is normal it just means I might develop a thyroid issue in the future..my TSH was 2.3 .it's normal so the didn't test any off others. He said it would be high or low ..so it's all normal retest in 6 months or if I get more symptoms...my ferratin is low 31..border range he said is 30 so he said go get a over counter tablet or supplement 🤷🤷🤷

Hi geordieclaire120573

How are you feeling these days? Last few times you posted, you mentioned you were pretty symptomatic.

Your ferritin is "borderline". If you are not menstruating, oral supplementation should "in principle" readily bring the level back to more optimal levels, some say 70-90.

Iron bisglycinate is currently considered one of the best form of "over the counter" iron supplement. It has higher bioavailability, and tends not to cause GI upset.

TG Ab of 206 is not "normal". It is indicative you are having some sort of autoimmune flare-up. You may have underlying chronic inflammation to deal with. That by itself can make you feel symptomatic.

Diet and lifestyle changes can effectively calm down autoimmunity. Many approaches have been talked about on this forum. Have you tried any? Do you need any signposting?

take care

Hi geordieclaire120573

Food is our best medicine. There's more than "just" eliminating gluten.

When you are falling apart, you may not have enough energy to pay attention to diet. Supplements in the form of pills and capsules are no substitute for nutrients from proper wholesome food.

Do you have enough energy to do proper grocery shopping, even if online? How about operating a blender to make smoothies? That is an "easy" way to pack a lot of nutrients into your tummy. Hope you have closed ones who can help with some physical chores. Then you can focus your mental energy on learning how to address your "gut health". I can pitch a few books if you are interested.

You have multiple health conditions, standard GPs are not likely to solve them for you with 10 minute consultation windows. Doctors trained in functional medicine may be a better option for you if you haven't got the energy at the moment to climb the long learning journeys, as some members here have done.

Here's the site to find certified IFM doctors you can have a face-to-face consultation with.

ifm.org/find-a-practitioner/

I have not done this myself. Perhaps there are members here who can recommend someone close to your area.

good luck and take care

Hi claire, answers are very hard to find as you have probably already seen. I've been searching for years myself and in the meantime chasing down each symptom and trying to mitigate them. Taking thyroid replacement (sooner or later) does not rid you of the disease.

It seems to come down to what is activating killer cells which are also destroying our gland.

Why this happens at the age of menopause may have to do with a certain metabolite of estrogen which does not clear the body and then considered a toxin. So estrogen dominance is another component. There is also gluten to consider.

But doctors/researchers are going to have to figure these things out and all we can do is try to support our bodies and keep as healthy as possible. But autoimmune conditions are on the rise and often found in countries that are becoming modernized.

I've just got nowhere with doctors...I'm normal, nothing wrong even though suffering with symptoms...I'm post menopause as well by nearly 4 years

Believe me, you will be doctoring yourself most likely. There are many functional practitioners who understand autoimmunity. I've kept up with many of them over the years. Conventional doctors will not view it the way they do. The problem is getting the type of tests they take, like an organic acids test for instance. They can find all sorts of imbalances, fungal overgrowths, bacterial infections and sometimes they'll find epstein barre virus in the gland itself. They also found a certain bacteria from the mouth being present. GPs don't have the capability to do this. If you're in the UK, I doubt the NHS will cover any of these kinds of things. But if you can afford and also find a knowledgeable naturopath you may not have to use trial and error like many others.

I've just watched a few interviews about the lymphatic system and get the idea it has a lot to do with our downfall if you want to look at it this way. This system is in close contact with the bloodstream and tries to catch anomalies and isolate them. They can send a message to the immune system and then lymphocytes and there are several killer cell types will get into action. I didn't understand it but the idea is partly that our lymph system depends on body movement and fluid and can see how this system can slow down with aging which can be a disaster if we are also fighting toxins from within.

This is too much information I'm sure but there can be some healing by addressing some basics. The body always tries to heal and you don't need a lot of pharmaceuticals to do it. Wishing you well on your journey!

You need to re-read the reply SlowDragon gave you on your last post. Iron isn’t something you should supplement without a full iron panel. Too much is as bad as too little.
