vitamin b12 was 658. Folate. 20 seratin 31. TSH 2.3.

Do you mean Ferritin was 31?

If so it’s far too low

You need full iron panel test for anaemia

Are you vegetarian or vegan

Heavy periods?

cks.nice.org.uk/topics/anae...

In all people, a serum ferritin level of less than 30 micrograms/L confirms the diagnosis of iron deficiency

Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.

Thyroid disease is as much about optimising vitamins as thyroid hormones

Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first and retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing. It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron

Chicken livers if iron is good, but ferritin low

No vitamin D result either

Test twice yearly via NHS private testing service when supplementing

They said seratin 31. They wouldn't give .e anymore results. Just said normal so I've asked for my records

Sounds like ferritin

Optimal ferritin is at least over 70 and nearer 100 often reduces symptoms

What’s your diet like

Are you vegetarian or vegan or not eating red meat

When Drs say all normal, it's lazy speak for the printout hasn't highlighted anything, not that there isn't a problem. Normal isn't optimal. If you are medicated then a TSH over 1 is too high.

Ah then you may struggle but you really need free T4 and T3 testing and then you might get a better picture. Also thyroid antibodies.

Previous post shows high Thyroglobulin antibodies and low Ft4

Looking at previous posts

You take asthma inhalers

This is a steroid

Irregular dose can upset HPA axis

May lower TSH too

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

In summary, this report suggests that inhaled (together with intranasal) fluticasone may suppress the HPA axis in adults and that symptomatic adrenal insufficiency may develop, particularly if dosing is variable and intermittent. These cases illustrate that clinical symptoms may alert the physician to the possibility of adrenal suppression which can then be confirmed using basal and/or stimulated tests of HPA function in selected patients. Further investigation to determine the prevalence of these effects in adult patients is warranted.

As you have high thyroid antibodies and sinusitis…..suggest you try dairy free diet for a few months. See if it helps

High number of autoimmune thyroid patients develop dairy and/or gluten intolerance

Thankyou I've just cut bread out

Did you get coeliac blood test done before cutting gluten

Gluten free diet needs to be absolutely strictly gluten free to be effective

That’s absolutely zero wheat, barley, rye

Read all labels

Don’t share butter dish, cutting board etc etc

It wasn't seratin they said ferratin. Levels is 31

So you are highly likely anaemic

Low iron/ferritin will leave you feeling utterly exhausted

Good ferritin is around 100 and over 70 minimum

Request full iron panel test for anaemia

Likely to need iron supplements

Any obvious reason for low iron?

Are you vegetarian or vegan

Are you pre or post menopause?

Heavy periods will lead to low iron and ferritin

Low iron and/or low ferritin frequently linked to hair loss and needs to be over 80 for hair to regrow

I'm post menopause now

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator• in reply togeordieclaire120573

So if post menopause and not vegetarian or vegan GP should be wondering why your iron is so low

But it’s going to be down to you to get full iron panel test for anaemia

Come back with new post once you get results

No doc didn't do that. I've just put in to change GP for the second time now

Get full iron panel test done for anaemia

Either via GP or test via Medichecks

Come back with new post once you get results

Always test iron levels early morning fasting (drink water) and avoid iron rich dinner night before

If/when taking iron supplements

Retest 3-4 times a year

Stop taking iron supplements a week before test

It can take 6-12 months to improve low ferritin levels
