Low body temperature

I have hypothyroidism currently on 100mcg levothyroxine for past year . My body temperature is 35.9 and has been low for quite a while , can this be a sign of problems with medication or my thyroid. I am not sensitive to cold quite the reverse as in sensitive to the heat . I am sue bloods next month and asking for a full thyroid panel and bit D, B12 and all others that have been mentioned on here . I doubt I’ll get them all on NHS but I’ll pay for what’s required.

I’m tired and fatigued and wondered if low body temperature has anything to do with thyroid or medication.

Hi Lightening2022, welcome to the forum. :)

Low body temperature is a hypo symptom, as is heat intolerence. It sounds as if you are under-medicated, and 100 mcg isn't a very high dose. So, hope your bloods lead to you getting an increase in dose.

Book early morning blood test, ideally before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Are you currently taking any vitamin supplements

Stop any supplements that contain biotin a week before blood test as biotin can falsely affect test results

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

I'm hypothyroid. I first realised my body temperature was always low when I was in my 20s. I got my first prescription for Levo in my 50s. I think I've been hypothyroid since childhood based on my symptoms.

I hoped my temperature would rise when I started taking thyroid hormones, but it didn't for several years. I think my body had just adapted to work at a lower than normal temperature.

But after being on thyroid hormones for several years there has been a slight increase in my basal temperature. It still isn't normal, but if I live long enough it might get there, you never know. :)

I always had a “cool customer” body temperature, thought nothing of it. It is currently on a high of 35.4 underarm and slightly different if taken under tongue. Early morning it is under 35 though I’m not feeling cold. It did once reach 36. Medically Identified as hypo earlier this year, aged 70, after feeling poorly. On 50 levo, with T.S.H. Of 2.2 . Hot weather has never been a friend to me. Roll on Autumn!

Thank you all for your helpful comments , I will take on board the advice on medication before blood test . I was self medicating on supplements but stopped taking them a couple of months ago as I haven’t been tested for deficiency in vitamins etc… and was worried I was doing more harm than good . I’m hoping my GP will be co operative and agree to full thyroid blood test and all other relevant bloods as mentioned on here which I have taken note of . I just thought it weird when I’m so hot and sweaty all the time that my temperature should be so low, like Greygoose has mentioned I might need my Levo upping in dose . I felt great for the first year on this dose but lately I’m so tired and lethargic with no will or energy to want to much

Thank you all so much for taking time to reply your advice is very much appreciated
