Does anyone suffer with marked low body temperature even though thyroid levels are supposedly optimal? I know the weather is cold now but I find that my body Temp falls fast and can end up at 35.5 often. I have even got a foil blanket for bad days! Also this is just not feeling cold .. I feel nauseous and get a sore chest in fact I can tell that my temp has dropped just by the onset of the symptoms. As well as fatigue I find this symptom of hypothyroidism one of the most difficult to tolerate. Just wondering if anyone else experiences this and how you cope? Thanks for any feedback

Post your levels if you have them. There are many knowledgeable people on this forum that should be able to offer advice.😊
But, I would like to add that exposure to mold in your home/ work environment, as well as systemic candida and other fungal/ parasitic infections can keep your temperature low, but can also cause swings from hot to cold. These infections congest and overwhelm the liver making it difficult to regulate many things, including temperature.
Adrenal problems can cause temperature fluctuations, as well.
Recently, I was listening to a thyroid health podcast, (I can't recall the functional practitioner's name), where he stated that he had seen temperature increases in many of his patients when progesterone levels were brought up. He didn't elaborate further, but he had previously been talking about the importance of sex hormone levels being optimal and their affect on the thyroid.
I hope you find the info you need soon and that the foil blanket (though handy and effective) won't be a necessity for much longer.😊
Mine also is often 35.5, when the Dr takes it its usually 36. 5. I take my temperature under the tongue Dr takes it from my ear.. Dr thinks my temp is OK. I go from feeling very cold to hot. In fact one Dr said I was a hypochondriac, then I was diagnosed with bradycardia and sleep apnea, I'm still trying to get a proper diagnosis for hypothyroidism.....
Get a full thyroid panel blood test from Medichecks or Horizon and post them here, you will soon get a diagnosis. While a private test is a bit expensive to begin with it pays for itself within a year via peace of mind and the right treatment that keeps you well.
This is one of the diagnostic tests for hypothyroid, so it's likely the replacement isn't optimal for you. Is this the only hypo symptom you have, or are there others, too?
As others have suggested, you could start a new thread with your results, to confirm they are good. Have you also looked into vitamins? Ferritin, folate, vit D, vit B12, these all have to be good for thyroid hormone to work properly. If you're on Levothyroxine-only it's possible your freeT3 is still low, even if the other parts of a thyroid panel look good.
I was getting very cold at one point when my hormone was very low. Almost like a fever in reverse. I found the only time I was really comfortable was with the heating turned up ridiculously high, especially to sleep. Blankets didn't help as much.
Thank you as I have said all my vitamins and minerals irons etc are optimal I have them tested privately and I’m at the top of the range with thyroid results. It’s certainly not the only symptom I have with hypo ( I should be so lucky!) but it’s one that baffles me the most as I feel that medics don’t understand or engage with patients who complain about low body Temp so it’s loirl understood and I also think that there is some other syndrome thing going on that it might not just be down to hypothyroidism.. well that’s my thinking but what do I know! 😊
My levels aren't optimal yet but I don't feel ill with hypothyroidism. One of my symptoms is feeling the cold. My temperature has often been around 36.4 and sometimes 37. However lately it is 35.8 in the mornings before I get up but I don't actually feel cold; I'm still in bed. Once I've been up for 10 minutes or so it does raise to about 36.4. Many years ago if I got really cold I would feel really ill and it could take an hour or so to warm up - I once sat in front of the fire with a blanket round me and it took me an hour to warm up. I'm not quite so bad these days - I don't get so cold that I feel ill but if I'm in a cold room I may never warm up (but I do sometimes have hot flushes ) I can play table tennis with a vest top, t-shirt and cardi or jacket on for an hour before warming up.
I did post a few days ago asking if feeling the cold was one of the things that improved or went away once optimally medicated and some people said that area hadn't improved for them.
My body temperature is also too low, it used to be just under 37 most of my life and now I am lucky if it gets to 36. I mentioned it to the doctor but she dismissed it.
But it does concern me because, if I remember well from my student days, in order for metabolic reactions to take place in optimal conditions the temperature has to be at a certain level so I assume that if my temperature is 35-36 a lot of processes are not carried out in optimal conditions. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why my hair is so bad? Just a thought.
I’ve had hypothyroidism most of my life and my normal temp is 97.1, if I get a reading of 98.6, then I have a fever. Try explaining that to someone that doesn’t understand that most of us with hypothyroidism run a lower than average body temp!
