I keep reading about T3 levels effect weight and if your T3 levels aren't in a correct spot than you gain weight. I was told by my naturopathic doctor that she doesn't see that T3 effects a persons weight. Can someone please tell me give personally results of going on T3 and it helped them with their weight? OR can someone please explain why T3 will help with weight loss?
Thank you!

Being optimally medicated on right replacement thyroid hormones and GOOD vitamin levels, and often addressing food intolerances are all necessary for the return of good health
But many members find, even when thyroid levels and vitamins are optimal it can still be a struggle to reduce weight
Those that need T3, need it for good health, rather than weight management
If adding T3 enables someone to be more active, then improved physical fitness levels are more likely and possibly some weight loss
Do you have any recent thyroid and vitamin results and ranges you can add
Are you diagnosed as hypothyroid/Hashimoto’s and on levothyroxine?
Thanks for replying. I have had Hashimotos for about 12 years. Two years ago I was on T3 plus Naturethroid. But when I changed Naturopaths last September she said I was over medicated and lowered my Naturethyroid and took me off of T3. I don't have any recent blood tests. My last blood draws were in September 2021. I have been thinking of going back to my old Naturopath because she was more thorough and took blood draws every 3 months.
More info - I had low b12 and was taking b12 shots every two weeks when I was on T3 and Naturethroid. I don't remember having any weight loss during that time. When my naturopath told me that her patients that were on T3 didn't lose weight either, I couldn't understand because I have always read that being on T3 made a person lose weight. I can now agree with her because of my journey on T3.
Hi, I started T3 in February in addition to my T4 which was slowly reduced.
I think I am an anomaly. My understanding was that when adding T3, some people report weight loss, some report it being more normal in that you can lose weight with work and your body responds as it should, as opposed to it being difficult.
I had previously put on 3kg whilst on T4 only, in the space of two months, even though my lifestyle/diet hadn’t changed, and I was disappointed that I continued to gain another 4kg since starting the combo. So in total I am 7kg heavier than I was 6months ago. Although I do feel a lot better on the T3.
My diet/lifestyle had not changed in any massive way, if anything I had become healthier.
I also started to experience ‘crashing’ after eating since being on the T3. Someone on here suggested the T3 effects insulin, so I am guessing I am probably insulin resistant that became more apparent, hence the unexpected weight gain.
I have recently embarked on low carb, intermittent fasting, including a 3 day fast to try and counteract the effects of T3. It’s hard work but I have lost 1kg in the last two weeks, so a slow, difficult process.
I would be interested in anyone else who has had less desirable effects from T3 and what they did!
HiI started t3 at the end of January. I also put on about 3kg. I lost 2 of them by calorie counting and managing portion size. I also feel better on t3 and can exercise more. I am heavier than I'd like but if it comes at the expense of feeling better then so be it! I'd also love to tone up again. I used to be very fit and toned but my muscle tone has gone! I don't know what the goo is. Everyone is different in their body's response. I think it's trial and error as to what works for you. Don't think I've found my success yet!!
Hi, would you mind me asking what you mean by crashing after eating on T3. I’m also on T3/t4 combo but not optimal and have put on weight since adding T3 even though I eat very well and exercise extensively. I’m also peri menopausal. I’m hoping that once levels areoptimal my weight will reduce.
I suddenly can not keep my eyes open, fall asleep/passout feeling. I think it may be reactive hypoglycaemia, I really do need to check my blood sugar levels. It definitely corresponds with eating, normally lunch, one to a few hours later.
Before starting T3 combined with Levothyroxine T4 I was taking just T4 Levothyroxine for Hashimotos. I piled on over 4st as I was grossly under medicated. Since introducing T3 I have lost 4st 4lbs and now my weight is steady and not gaining any weight even though I now eat more. I feel my weight has reduced as now my T4 T3 and TSH are all now optimal for me. My vitamins are also very good. My metabolism has increased and now I have plenty of energy to exercise each day. Prior I couldn’t exercise at all due to lack of energy.
I’ve only been on T3 for less than a year and although I haven’t lost weight, I do feel better all round.
I think i read somewhere that in the 70s and even now people in gyms use T3 for weight loss which contributed to why it got such a bad rep. Obviously, they are abusing the medication in my eyes as opposed ti requiring it for medical purposes.
It hasn’t helped with weight loss for me so I take that as being an argument as to why it’s needed for people like us with thyroid conditions.
