T3 weight loss

Hi everyone) I have been self-medicating with T3 from September, but only now have started losing weight without trying. This puzzles me as to why it is happening now, almost 1 year after starting treatment and has not happened before. Have you had similar experiences? Thank you and I hope you are all well xxx

They say the body takes time to balance itself out. It could have taken a year for everything to start functioning properly. Biochemistry works slowly most times.

Did you self medicate or did you get your T3 from a GP/Endo?

Thanks for your input :) I am self-medicating. And actually reduced my dose in the recent months. So this is why i am scratching my head now)

Quite interesting! Good news, though, right? :D

mmm....I wanted that to happen, yes, but it didn't from the beggining, just slowed my weight gain significantly. But now am such a hypochondriac that i am thinking "Oh God! Maybe this is cancer or something? Why did it come so suddenly?" . Hate that i do that :(

Hmmm... I understand. You suspect that it might be unrelated to your thyroid. Well, only tests can tell. Have you tested your thyroid hormones lately?

Yeah, and my T3 is outside of normal range (about twice as high as the maximum should be). So I am still trying to adjust my dose.

Aaah. Maybe you flipped and went hyperthyroidic.

yuliyam If your T3 is too high this could be the cause? And you do need to be careful if you are self medicating. Too much could affect your heart. Did you start off very low and build up very slowly. When I started I had to restart over about 2 years, several times, as I increased too quickly. How much are you taking?

yuliyam I hope it is not cancer or anything else equally horrid. Try not to panic. It is probably as Inana says - just things coming together in harmony. But if you are worried it is probably best to get a chick up and put your mind at ease. All the best.

thank you. I have actually put on 2 pounds in the last week, so probably nothing bad is happening and these are just normal weight fluctuations x

It might be that your levels are more balanced. I was on T3 only for several years and did not lose weight. Though all other symptoms subsided TG. Weight was least of them, in terms of importance unfortunately not in amount! However, I joined SW and lost 4st in 11 months, easily, hardly any effort, and I think that was because my medication was balance d and working well.

What is SW? I would like to join something this effective when I can walk starlight.

Slimming World Inana I don't agree with all they do but basis is good. Good ethos of not necessarily cutting out anything. (Appreciate Gluten Free is proving to reduce antibodies for those with Hashi's here) Feel SW can good and can be altered to suit our needs. I need to go back - my own fault - stopped going, family issues took over, and meds went to pot, so when I get back to a good level, which hoping nearly there, I will go back.

I tend to think it is like one of those things that may need to do for life though, just to keep mind focused.

Others do find other clubs just as good -you have to find which works best for you. Personal choice.

But be careful if your meds are not settled you could find that 'dieting' of any sort can slow metabolism down even further. With SW there are lots of 'free' foods so especially at the beginning you don't have to feel 'hungry'. Best of luck.

My friend is following this program. She swears by it and have lost over 10 kg in the last 4 months. And says she never felt hungry on it

Inana - their thinking is to largely 'substitute' problem foods. But they do it well. I don't agree with all the pre- packed meals and stuff they promote lately, but that is just me...prefer things cooked fresh. But they do have some great recipes and ideas. And they do work -I will got back sometime soon. It was an amazing feeling to lose that weight. And to be able to just buy clothes at a certain size and know they will!

A basically good healthy lifestyle. And not 'pushy'.

This is excellent. I love cooking and this would add a nice and healthy dimension to my cooking. I am definitely gonna have a look.

I went to SW, before being diagnosed hypo. and the woman running it said that I was lying about what I was eating as I did not lose weight! I left.
