hello there everyone.Thankyou for all your good wishes.I am still in hospital but due to go home today.I thought I was to stay in 1 night but I got it wrong. The thyroidectomy itself was nothing to worry about.Under anasthetic and it seems like you wake a minute later
I don't know yet much about my operation as apparently it will all be discussed at my post operative check in about 6 weeks. The surgeon said I was his only operation that day and he expected it to take most of the morning and maybe even over lunch time.Apparently graves can distort the thyroid and it could be attatched to other things and has alot of blood vessels so he wouldn't really know until he got in there. It was about 6pm when I came out of recovery onto a ward.My voice is a bit like when you have a cold, a bit hoarse and my necks a bit tight and swallowing is a bit sore but I haven't needed painkillers.I was sick after the operation but I think it was a migraine because I had to starve before the operation and that isn't good for me.An anti sickness injection stopped it.I have a drain in which will be removed today before I leave.I had tingling and pins and needles in my hands, arms and feet so they started me on calcium tablets, first 2 a day but now gone up to 4.I don't know yet how long I need to take them.I am also starting on steroids today to help protect my eyes. They will taper down for 6 weeks.I hope they don't send me like my dad when he had Bells Palsy. He drove my mum mad sneaking out to bookies when he was supposed to be isolating, saying he thought they should decorate front room and broke a corner off bathroom sink trying to sort a cupboard out. He's decided to leave my thyroxine same for the time being and will test when I have my post op in about 6 weeks.I feel a bit shaky but obviously I've had an operation and I think a migraine. Can't wait to get home and sleep in my own bed. Will keep posting along the way.

OK, take it easy, and thank you for letting us all know it's over and you are going home today.
Once, at home, and in your own bed and surroundings you will feel more comfortable.
You are not your Dad - so stop those thoughts, whilst I'm sure you could find a wall to paint or a cupboard to mend, I'm not suggesting you pick up a paint brush or screw driver - just yet !!!
You have been in my thoughts Cavapoochonowner & I’m so pleased you are feeling well enough to go home. You will need lots of rest & support in your recovery; go easy on yourself. Best wishes to you!
Glad to hear it’s all over and you’re doing ok. I had a tapering course of steroids - sounds like what you are having and I was fine - no roid rage, I didn’t put on weight or anything and no problems when I finished the course.Take things very easy, just relax and get better, hopefully the weather will stay nice while you relax and recover too. ☀️
Glad to hear you are out and well, I hope your now more relaxed and not climbing the walls, keep us posted over the next few weeks on how you are. Reading your post has put my mind at rest a little so thank you so much 😁
hello there, thankyou.I'm feeling a bit better each day.Feel better in myself, the operation itself wasn't bad at all.The shaky feelings I had inside all the time seem to have gone and I feel alot calmer. My eyes feel alot better too, although I am on steroids for 6 weeks to help this.I'm taking it very easy and haven't been out yet except into the garden. My wound is looking nice and clean this morning , I bathe it morning and evening and have a prescribed cream to put on 3x a day for 10 days.I will keep posting along the way and have tried to keep my profile up to date.I found it so helpful to see anything positive about thyroidectomy, I could then make my decision with a balanced view.I don't know if you have you tube but I looked under thyroidectomy for graves and found a lovely australian girl who has had one and has done posts firstly about her graves diagnosis , then what led her to have her thyroidectomy and how she's been since. Some posts go back about 5 years but they are still relevant. She gives such lovely positive posts and it really helped me to watch. Her name is Emma Tara.
