It would be wrong for us to throw possibilities at you when tight chestedness has many possible causes - both serious and innocuous. The NHS also says get it checked.
Molly161018 I would be particularly interested in hearing the results of you getting checked (which you must). I am new here and have no idea otherwise about your thyroid status and I have not yet declared my own. However I have had similar symptoms. I am still learning/gleaning/sucking up knowledge provided here. Today I finally understand the necessary testing I need before I can progress my own ‘stuff’. Please post again when you have this current issue dealt with.
Tightness in chest may be related to cardiac issues as already mentioned. Atherosclerosis (narrowing of the arteries leading to/from the heart nearly always has a hypothyroid component.
Hypothyroid issues around muscles? It makes sense to me if you do have muscle issues - then the heart is just the most important muscle in your body! There is research that links heart stuff to hypothyroidism, which is not atherosclerosis related. It is Japanese research from 2008 originally I think but more recent info is available. It’s not common and it is a real nuisance and worrying. I have been living with it for about 25 years. It is no coincidence that I have had relief from it since I started thyroxine, when all else previously failed to make any impression. When I tell the docs this they look at me as if wondering how to politely write me off and return to their ‘protocol’ as fast as they can without acknowledging me at all, even although I am reporting something very positive. I had far more interest from the cardiac people who were keen to show me my coronary arteries folding over themselves in 2 angiograms. The GPs still ignore it. It just does not sit within their ‘boxes’ which ‘box’ them in. The ‘boxes’ are removing the skill and knowledge and experience from the practice of medicine.
