Confused self thyroid management

Hello,

Brand new here, though I've been perusing much- enough to learn which thyroid tests to ask for, if I can get them. (Healthcare history in bio) Meanwhile, I've decided not to take the desiccated bovine thyroid as it seems a Brimeyer scam. Right now I've got fluid nodes/cysts that are like a vise to the neck, (which incidentally started really acting up after Covid) EXTREMELY painful in random pulses throughout the day. Worst in the morning and at night, whereupon I also have weird temperature issues trying to sleep. Any stop gap suggestions for relief? Diet? (I am gluten free, high LDL, no meat (save sardines) or dairy) Vitamins? Help?

on your profile you mention iodine poisoning….can you elaborate

Multivitamins are never recommended on here.healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Stop any supplements that contain biotin a week before all blood tests

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis. Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally before 9am

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

I have seen you recommend fasting prior to testing. I am scheduled for 9am in 2days and have been having what feels like adrenal/blood sugar crash issues. I would like the most accurate results but am unsure I can manage fasting without collapse. How badly do you think a small portion of food will effect the reading? (They refused tests for vitamin levels)

You don’t need to fast, eat as normal the night before test

Ideally only drink water between getting up in morning and blood test before 9am….but if you need to eat something you’ll have to do so.

It might mean TSH is not quite as high if had tea, coffee or breakfast

You will need to test vitamin levels privately

High cholesterol levels linked to being hypothyroid

nhs.uk/conditions/statins/c...

If you have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), treatment may be delayed until this problem is treated. This is because having an underactive thyroid can lead to an increased cholesterol level, and treating hypothyroidism may cause your cholesterol level to decrease, without the need for statins. Statins are also more likely to cause muscle damage in people with an underactive thyroid.

Thanks very much, yes I have screen shot these test specs and plan to use them. Likewise the cholesterol info.I did not know that about multi and biotin; much appreciated!🙏

The iodine poisoning is an embarrassment....in fit of 'pro healthiness' I did a very stupid juice fast which included heavy hitting seaweed my system wasn't used to. I rallied alright, or so I thought.

Again, appreciate your help :)
