Interpreting Test Results

Hi all,

I have just had my test results back from the doctor and was hoping someone could help letting me know what they mean please?

FT3 16.4

TSH 0.67

I have had a quick scan online and it looks as though my TSH levels are ok but my FT3 is high, however the GP receptionist says the results have been marked as fine.

Thanks

Think that might be a typo ….and it’s Ft4?

What is you diagnosis

Hypothyroidism (autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s)

Or hyperthyroid (autoimmune thyroid disease called Graves Diseaase )

To confirm Graves’ disease you must have TSI or Trab antibodies tested

Hashimoto’s (or Graves’ disease) plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with Graves or Hashimoto’s

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally before 9am

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Hi SlowDragon,

I have been diagnosed as having Graves Disease about 2 years ago but have little contact or support from my endocrinologist.

I am currently not on any medication but i was taking 5mg Carbimazole up until October.

The above T3 result is the free T3.

I paid for a full test including vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 last year and was told to take supplements for vitamin D and folate which i am doing.

I was not tested for T4 through my GP results.

Please do ask for copies of your antibody tests; you are legally entitled to these. I was originally diagnosed with Graves, but followed forum advice from SlowDragon & others to test privately. Members’ suspicions were correct; although I had ‘hyper’ like symptoms (& Thyroid Eye Disease) antibodies actually showed hypothyroidism & Hashimotos. I am eternally grateful to members of this forum for encouraging me to self test & optimise both thyroid medication & key vitamins (folate, ferritin, B12 and Vit D).

So you need to see GP

What’s the range on Ft3 result

Results look odd….because with (presumably) very over range Ft3 you would expect TSH to be zero

And GP should have flagged results and called you in

How do you feel?

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Were you taking any supplements that contain biotin when test was done?

Looking at old test results…..can you find any antibodies results?

Not what you're looking for?
