I have three cousins, one auntie and one grandparent - across both sides of my family - with thyroid dysfunction.
My auntie and granny (same side) have Hashimoto's.
I have a lot of symptoms - weight gain / total inability to lose, eyebrow loss (outside third), fatigue (often need to nap or would fall asleep), memory loss (like, forget to pick my kids up from school etc. as well as the usual can't bring to mind a word etc.); feeling cold, muscle pain, joint stiffness (neck), puffy face... I also have other symtoms that may be unrelated including migraines, headaches, sharp pains, numbness. I also have a number of diagnosed disorders including asthma, allergies (ige), IBS and intolerences.
My GP thinks I have health anxiety / all my issues are anxiety related. I am aware that I have anxiety and I am aware that anxiety affects our body - of course it does!
However I also think its not unreasonable to think I may have Hashimoto's.
Anyway, they did a thyroid function test and said its normal, but I think they have not tested for the antibodies? However I am bit unclear.
Results below - if anyone can tell me:
A - if I'm being daft and unlikely to have Hashimoto's based on these results; or
B - what tests I actually need to have
I would be eternally grateful.
Thank you!
RESULTS - last week
TSH - 2.6mU/L (range 0.23 - 5.6)
T3 - 2.0nmol/L (1.3 - 3.1)
T4 - 17pmol/L (9-28)
They also did a full blood count, plasma glucose, blood haematinic levels, liver function, urea and electrolytes - in case these are helpful?
Thank you in advance.

Your thyroid function are currently range so GP will say ok.
The higher the TSH to more the thyroid is struggling so I would be looking to retest in a few months to see if it increases.
TSH measure is highest in morning before food. So best to test as early as possible after fasting over night. Lots of water for hydration and easier blood draw. What time was test taken?
GP unlikely to test Antibodies until thyroid results out of range. I would see if you can arrange a private test for TPO and TG antibodies and positive results would support early treatment. Ie not allowing levels to get to abnormally low levels before commencing treatment.
Looking at the ranges it’s looks like Free T4 and Total T3 have been tested you need Free T3 as this is the gauge of most thyroid symptoms, again you might have to test privately.
Also important to test folate, ferritin, vitamin D and B12. These are often low with thyroid disfunction and compounds symptoms & can lower TSH.
As well as family history of thyroid issues do your family have other autoimmune issues? Do you have any autoimmune issue currently diagnosed In yourself?
Hi. Just to say that I can see why your Dr says your results are fine as they do look OK. We need to remember that not everything is due to a thyroid problem. I speak from personal experience in that regard. If your full blood count also looks OK too then Drs will inevitably put your symptoms down to anxiety if there's no obvious reason. I was found to have antibodies for Hashimotos in 2014 but my thyroid results remained in range (although borderline) until last year when they went hugely out of range and I started levo. Maybe there is another reason for your symptoms which you need to investigate, but if you do have thyroid antibodies make sure your TSH etc is regularly checked.
