Hello Olsson :
When on NDT the TSH is generally low suppressed : T4 can be lower than when on T4 but T3 should be proportionately higher than when on T4 monotherapy.
What sort of time lapse was there between last dose and blood draw?
How do these compare to your bench mark T3 and T4 prior to starting and what was your previous dose and medication ?
Your T3 is a little high - how are you feeling and how much NDT are you taking ?
How much NDT are you taking?
Olsson NDT contains T4 and T3 in a set ratio. It could be that this set ratio isn't good for you - that you need more T4 and less T3. Some folks get round this by adding levothyroxine to a dose of NDT.How much NDT do you take? How soon was the blood test after your last dose of NDT?
It might be that you need to reduce your NDT dose to reduce the ft3 and add in some levothyroxine to increase the ft4 (and it will increase slightly ft3 depending on how well you convert.)
Hi thanks for the responses. I actually took medication just 20 mins before the blood test. I know i shouldnt I just did it as a reflex
And i dont remember my last test, in my country we dont have ndt and the doctors are not to trust on, so im doing this by myself.
Ive tried to take just 15 microgram of thyroxin but im getting so sick even with that small amount. My body cant handle thyroxine at all.
Im currently on 1 ndt morning and 1 and 1 quarter at night.
Im feeling quite good but not as good as i should. Im having fatigue and alot of dark rings under my eyes. Should I add a other quarter?
But you do know that NDT contains thyroxin (T4) don't you? So, if you cannot tolerate T4, it could be that that is making you not quite as well as you should be. And raising your NDT will raise the level of thyroxin in your blood, which doesn't sound like a good idea at all.
I don't think taking the NDT just before the blood test will have had any bearing on these blood test results.
If you feel improved but not quite ' there ' yet you could try a 1/4 grain more and then stay on this new dose for a 6-8 weeks and then run a blood test just to see if anything has changed and any symptoms reduced.
I'm thinking you mean you cannot take levothyroxine (synthetic hormone). Same with me. That's why I take NDT. It appears your NDT kicked in in time for the blood test. My endocrinologist would look at the lab results and say everything is good. It's possible you're not feeling as well as you'd like due to some other reason. That was my experience.
Rather than judging by how you feel, you could measure something quantitative, such as pulse and blood pressure. If you're undermedicated, you're apt to have higher than recommended diastolic blood pressure, or a slowed pulse (something below 50 beats per minute when resting).
A way of knowing you're overmedicated on NDT is having a high resting pulse rate (higher than what it is now, for example, should you boost the dose). The heart is pretty good at informing you when you get carried away with the NDT.
Just some ideas.
Good luck.
I've been on NDT for years and when I'm at the correct dose my blood pressure is lower where as if I'm on a incorrect dose I have a high BP and pulse
Hi I take NDT without a thyroid. I couldn't take Levo but I am well on 2.25 grains of NDT.You should have waited 12 hours before you last dose to obtain the correct results. I have just taken my yearly blood test and it's good, but I did take my last dose 12 hours before.
