Hello People

I recently switched to NDT and wonder if the time window between vitamins & NDT is the same as with Levo ie 2h with all vitamins (iron, vit B etc) and Vit D which is 4h?

Thank you

I would say yes. NDT contains T4, so the same rules apply as to levo - which is T4.

As to T3, seems there is no research on the subject, but anacdotally, we do sometimes see people on here that don't respect the time gaps, and their blood tests do suggest poor absorption of T3. So, if you want maximum absorption, best to alway observe those time gaps with all thyroid hormone.

I don't think that's true. It's always said on here to leave four hour for calcium AND vit D, not necessarily in the same tablet.

Oh thank you. I didn’t appreciate it was the calcium

Iron, calcium, magnesium - and I think vit D - and oestrogen (in tablet form) need to be four hours away from thyroid hormone. All other supplements at least two hours away.

I do take magnesium but roughly 4h away. It is supposed to help with cortisol & sleep 😊 I don’t take calcium. I thought iron was 2hours? Not 4h?

Iron is most definitely 4 hours away from thyroid hormone, and two hours away from everything else except vit C. It blocks aborption of everything except vit C.

Argh. That makes things kinda really difficult for me. I currently dose NDT 3 x a day.

I get terrible slumps otherwise.

So having iron 4 h away can be done just before bed. But I’d have to fine tune Vit D 2h between NDT doses.

Mouth spray is different I hear you say?

Mouth sprays can be taken any time, yes, because they don't get into the gut. It's there that problems of absorption arise.

Well, exactly, it would show in your blood test results if you weren't absorbing it. But I don't think that on here, we've ever had enough evidence to say one way or the other. Personally, I like to play safe and take everything well away from thyroid hormone. :)

Totally agree about not taking calcium. It's a very bad thing to take.

I don’t take calcium. Just vit D

Well, I understand your reasoning, but if you don't start a new thread, not many people are going to read this warning, which would be a shame.

So, are you saying that Bendroflumethiazide stops calcium being excreted? Or have I totally misunderstood?
