Can having a Dental Xray make your Thyroid result skewed. ? I ask because although I asked about a neck covering prior to being x rayed, they didn't seem to think it would make any difference.

I have never had a neck shield for a dental x-ray in all the 47 years I've been treated for hypothyroidism, and my dental records show my medical history and prescription medication.

I had a dental x-ray on 24th March and did a thyroid test on 29th March, not even giving it a thought that it might skew results. The results came back exactly as I expected so in my experience no, it hasn't skewed results.

The standard dental X-ray is pretty low intensity. The most recent ones are astoundingly low intensity.

However, a full panoramic X-ray requires a much higher total X-ray dose. (In my experience, they are often done on much older machines.)

But none is likely to make any difference to a blood test.

Although thyroid shields seem to make sense, it is important that they have been properly tested. Some early attempts at shielding increased dosage in some tissue whilst reducing it in other tissue.
