I was born with an under active thyroid do have been on Levo thyroxine ever since. I’m now 30 years old.
I’m just wondering if anyone of you have had any problems with dental health due to an under active thyroid.
I’ve a gap appeared between my front bottom teeth and the back left bottom ones are all but gone, one is currently loose.
Dentist said bad decay on my last visit, however it has crossed my mind that it could be down to thyroid? Or maybe taking medication for so many years?
Any help would be gratefully accepted

When you take VitD it enhances the uptake of calcium from foods - and it is suggested you to take the co-factors magnesium and VitK20MK7 - which directs calcium away from arteries and soft tissues and into bones and teeth. It will also help gums as it is anti-inflammatory. VitD is also a steroidal pro-hprmone needed in every cell of your body.
I suggest you have VitD - B12 - Folate and Ferritin tested as soon as possible ....
Do you have Thyroid results with ranges you can share ? Maybe you are under-medicated.
Oh my goodness yes! Always, always had problems. I reckon I've been hypo since about 8. Had one filling after another as a child, and yet I looked after my teeth - despite what doctors said. I started losing them after my first chid. They just snapped off at the root. I'm 73, now, and have about four of my own teeth left - and I don't think they've got much longer to go!
Plus had to have a lot of dental work because my jaws were too small for the number of teeth. So, lost some that way, and had braces, etc. My teeth are the bane of my life!
On another thyroid forum, there was a hypo dentist. He said, in answer to a question like this, that as well as good levels of nutrients, you also need goo levels of hormones. If your hormones are askew, it will definitely affect your teeth!
Really? Oh my goodness! Sounds like I’m not alone then. It’s just on side of my mouth and two of them have literally crumbled down to the root and this one is totally slack
I haven't had any come loose, but, each tooth in turn, snaps off at the root - whole teeth! Just leaving the root stuck in the gum. My roots are a bit weird, too, according to the dentist.
I was going to one dental practice & they had me convinced I was not brushing my teeth enough. I changed dentists & the new one felt I was brushing my teeth too much each time. Is it any wonder people’s teeth fall out.
Yes lots of tooth problems since diagnosed hypothyroid. A bit better since I discovered my B12 was low and that has been treated. Also VitD was low too, and that has been supplemented.
