Delays in receiving Thyroid function blood test result

Hello I am still awaiting my Thyroid function blood test result which was taken on 23/03/2022. Ive made multiple phone calls to the GP surgery and always seem to get the brush off. I am currently off work due to my thyroid acting up again. Mainly dizziness and unbalanced feeling. I am needing the result so I can get a dosage increase to 150mcg. Has anyone had any experience of long and frustrating delays with blood test

My NHS results are always back the next day. Once the GP has see them they can then be released to the patient.

The surgery say that they don't have the results due to the Leicester Royal infirmary Lab being a bit behind due to covid. August last year I had the blood draw on the 4th. Received the result on the 9th. 5 days turnaround

Why don't you ring the lab to verify this?

I don't know anything about the hospital where your tests are processed or any delays they might experience but my surgery suspended routine tests for a while due to the pandemic, lockdown started in March 2020 and urgent tests were done by the surgery when necessary.

I've had NHS tests done (thyroid included) in September 2020,

December 2020 and November 2021. There were no delays, all results back at GPs the following day.

Personally speaking, we can view our standard NHS test results, including thyroid, on the same day the test was done if someone at our surgery has had the time to review them. If not, they are always available the following day. If there is a suggestion that the lab is responsible for the delay, I would check with the lab directly to confirm this. I would contact your practice manager if reception staff are being unhelpful.

Today I am seeing Dr this afternoon. I guess to disscuss results. Despite the fact I can't see the results yet on my NHS online record. Pretty fed up to be honest.

You probably can't see your results online because your GP hasn't yet released them, wanting to discuss them with you first, so has made this appointment. Maybe the delay was due to this, rather than a lab slowdown? Hope your appointment proves helpful. Good luck!
