Hey - I was planning to stop my thyroid medication
I never stopped it before and I don't have Hashimoto's or any kind of autoimmune disease, I live in a third-world country so the chances to have Iodine deficiency are higher
I'm 23 years old male, I got diagnosed when I was 18 years old, and doctors never bothered themselves to know the cause, I do blood tests on my own since 2017 when I got diagnosed.
I refuse to accept such illness because it ruined me and my life completely and I tried therapy but it never helped.
Anyway, I planned to stop my thyroid medication but I wanted to make sure that I have the optimum nutrition for my thyroid to work properly before I stop my medication.
So I did Iodine Blood Test three years ago and as expected I had a deficiency.
I took Iodine Lugol's Solution for a month as the doctor told me, it made me feel good, mentally alerting, focused, and near to perfect, then I stopped supplementing with iodine but I kept taking my thyroid medication and I got busy with university, So I didn't have a chance to stop my thyroid medication or retest my iodine levels.
Anyway, I did Iodine Blood Test this month (after three years) and I found out that I still have an Iodine deficiency.
I just don't know what should i do.
I know that I need to have optimum selenium levels too but I didn't have a chance to do the test might do it anyway.
I attached my Iodine Blood Test Result
Should I consider supplementing with iodine and selenium again and stop my medication?
I just don't know what to do next, i know the protocol for stopping the thyroid medication but i don't know what should i do next, i feel confused but i know that my hypothyroidism cause is Iodine deficiency.
Thanks.

What was the therapy you undertook and that didn't work for you ?
What is the medication you now take daily to treat your hypothyroidism ?
There are people who take an iodine supplement like Lugol's iodine solution - though I would think, this is instead of a tablet form of thyroid medication.
The thyroid medication in the UK is basically iodine in tablet form - generally referred to as T4 - Levothyroxine.
Can you give us a bit more information please -
Could you run a blood test for at least a TSH, Free T3, Free T4 thyroid antibodies and inflammation ?
We generally suggest also running tests for ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D :
Many people supplement selenium - though we should check first to see if you are deficient.
What symptoms are you dealing with and are your eyes affected ?
On the thyroid hormone blood test result - we generally feel at our best when our TSH is low in the range, generally under 1 with some people finding they feel much better when the TSH is right down the bottom of it's range.
Your T3 is at 2,59 in a range of 1.70-4.20 and at around 36% through its range :
Your T4 is at 1.10 in a range of 0.89-1.76 and at around 24% through the range :
We generally feel at our best when our T4 is in the top quadrant of its range as this should convert to a T3 reading running at around 60-70% through its range
I think you need to be taking more T4 medication. start with a 25mcg increase daily and test again around 6-8 weeks and see if your T3 and T4 levels have improved and starting to move up the ranges.
This first set of immune analysis show all results under the top of the range so I believe this to mean you are not dealing with any auto immune diseases that relate to these antibody results.
If you type Selenium into the ' Search HealthUnlocked ' tool bar in the top right corner of this screen you can read further on this subject.
Without a blood test and not knowing your level you need to consider your diet and can read there various posts from other forum members asking a similar question.
Read the answers especially those of SeasideSusie who offers links and suggestions as to foods to eat and a ' safe ' level to supplement if you choose to go this route.
although it was too much because i had severe Iodine deficiency in the past as i did iodine urine test 4 year ago and it showed i had severe Iodine deficiency and now after three years it seems that in blood i have maybe severe-mild iodine deficiency as you can see.
i already did TSH, FT4, FT3, T3, T4
I just don't know what the next step, should i consider taking Iodine with Selenium? if yes then how much?
or should i consider try stop levothyroxine very slowly and follow the protocol and see what will happened?
Some people appear to have had long-term issues due to excess iodine intake.
Amiodarone is a medicine which has a very high iodine content. Some who take it have long-term effects - almost always attributed to the iodine content.
This is a search for "amiodarone induced" which finds a number of issues known to be caused by amiodarone. Sometimes these issues occur after taking amiodarone for a long time without any obvious problems. But it shows a range of possibilities.
